Newspaper Delivery Woman Killed In Calumet Heights Hit-And-Run
CHICAGO (CBS) --A woman delivering newspapers Tuesday morning became the victim of a deadly hit and run in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.
Police are hoping surveillance video may help catch the killer.
CBS 2's Chris Martinez reports one neighbor heard a woman scream just shy of 5 a.m. at 91st and Euclid and came outside.
"I saw something laying in the middle of the street and so we called the police. Sure enough it was a body," she said.
That hit-and-run that killed a newspaper delivery driver began with a carjacking.
"All these people knew her by name Who knows their paper carrier by name?!" Jose Reyes, the victim's boss, said.
Her boss says victim was hit, dragged and killed by her own car.
"The way they left her, nobody, nobody deserves that it. It was not nice," said Reyes.
Surveillance video from a neighbor's home may have captured the carjacker.
The video shows someone walking towards where those first screams were heard
just before the victim's car, a black SUV pulls up and stops for a matter of seconds.
It's thought when she got out to make her delivery her killer jumped in. The woman's body was found less than block down the road.
"Her body was twisted up, skid marks on it was sad," the neighbor said.
The victim's boss says the car was recovered by police less than two miles away from the crime scene.
