Woman Found Dead In Snowbank In Park Ridge

PARK RIDGE, Ill. (CBS) -- A woman was found dead Saturday afternoon in a snowbank in Park Ridge.

At 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Park Ridge police were called to the rear parking lot at 800 W. Higgins Rd., and found the woman's body. She was about 40 years old, police said.

Officers spent the afternoon and evening investigating.

As CBS 2's Steven Graves reported, it was unclear who found the woman's body in the parking lot right behind a dental office.

Neighbors said Saturday night that police told them it might have been there for days.

Park Ridge officers held up a white sheet as about a dozen of them concealed the body on Saturday night.

"It's concerning, for sure," said neighbor David Frede.

The area off Higgins road where the woman's body was found is close to the Kennedy Expressway Cumberland Avenue exit It also shares a sidewalk with a nearby residential neighborhood.

"Because we're by an intersection and Dunkin' Donuts, we get a lot of people kind of coming and going in this area," Frede said.

How the woman ended up in the snowbank was still a mystery Saturday night.

"The police came by the house earlier and asked for our footage from our security system to see if anybody's walked by on Monday night," Frede said. "They said that they suspected it might have been Monday night because the body was obscured by snow."

But the neighbors said nothing was caught on their camera. Nearby business workers who might know anything were gone - their shops closed for the night.

Park Ridge police were conducting a death investigation with assistance from the Major Crimes Assistance Team Forensic Unit.

Late Saturday, Park Ridge police do not think the woman's death is suspicious, but they said they believe the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the community.

They have sent the woman's body to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office to find out how she died.
