Teen shot and killed while driving on Chicago's South Side

CHICAGO (CBS) — A 19-year-old was found dead after a shooting and crash on Chicago's South Side.

The teen was driving a Chevy Malibu in the 800 block of West Garfield Boulevard when someone inside a silver SUV fired shots, police said.

The woman, identified as Cyra Magby, was shot in the back, causing her to lose control of the car and crash into a Volkswagen Jetta in the 5400 block of South Halsted Street.

Magby was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where she died.

A 19-year-old passenger was taken to the same hospital with lacerations to her face in serious condition.

The driver and passenger of the Jetta, a 43-year-old man, and a 40-year-old woman suffered minor injuries from the crash. They were taken to the Storger Hospital in good condition.

No other injuries were reported.

The mother of the victim's mother, Erica Price, spoke out, calling for an end to the violence.

"These babies didn't deserve that, my baby didn't deserve that. That's too much, we gotta stop the violence, it's too much," she said.

Magby played varsity basketball at Englewood STEM before she graduated in 2023. Her family clutched her team photo while speaking with CBS 2. They said she was the kind of person who would give others the shirt off her own back.

"She was caring. She did not deserve this at all," said Magby's sister. "Sister I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I love you. We love you so much baby and I'm so sorry I wasn't there."

The SUV was last seen heading northbound from the scene.

As of Wednesday, no one is in custody. Area detectives were investigating.
