Woman Due In Court For Fatal Antioch Hit-And-Run

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A motorist appears in bond court Thursday in Waukegan, on charges stemming from an early-morning accident Wednesday that left a motorcyclist dead.

Lake County Sheriff's Police Det. Christopher Covelli said 50-year-old Gregory Boyes, of unincorporated Antioch Twp., died at about 4 a.m. when a Toyota Avalon, allegedly driven by 34-year-old Leena Ultsch, of Antioch, struck Boyes' motorcycle on Illinois 173 near North Linden Lane in unincorporated Antioch.

Boyes was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at Condell Memorial Hospital, in Libertyville.

Covelli said police initially investigated Boyes' death as a single-vehicle accident, but said evidence led them to believe it was a hit-and-run.

Ultsch allegedly called police and told detectives she had left the scene of the accident because she was scared. Police examined her Toyota Avalon and found damage consistent with that to the motorcycle.

Lake County prosecutors charged Ultsch with leaving the scene of the accident and failure to report it in a timely manner, a felony, as well as failure to render aid to an accident victim, a misdemeanor.

Ultsch submitted to drug and alcohol tests, and Covelli said other charges could be placed, depending on the results.

Ultsch was being held in the Lake County Jail.
