Woman Dies Week After Being Struck By Minivan On South Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 43-year-old woman has died after being struck by a minivan last weekend in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side.
She and another woman, 49, were crossing the street about 2:40 a.m. on May 10 when a southbound minivan hit them in the 8900 block of South Stony Island Avenue, Chicago Police said.
Both were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where the younger woman died at 5:57 a.m. on Saturday, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. She was identified as Sandra D. Miller of the 800 block of South Kolmar, and her death was ruled an accident, authorities said.
The older woman was listed in critical condition, police said.
An investigation found the pedestrians were crossing against the traffic signal and the minivan had a green light, police said.
The driver, a 36-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to yield to pedestrians in the roadway, police said.
