Woman Charged With Arson For Elgin Dumpster Fires
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A northwest suburban woman has been charged with arson after she allegedly confessed to police that she started fires in three Elgin dumpsters near City Hall early Thursday.
Stephanie Swon, 25, of Elgin, faces one count of arson and two counts of criminal damage to property, all felonies, according to a statement from Elgin police.
Officers found three dumpsters between City Hall and the parking deck on fire about 12:30 a.m. on the south side of the parking deck at 95 Symphony Way, police said.
Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, which destroyed all three dumpsters and damaged the façade of the concrete parking deck, police said.
After checking the immediate area of the fire, officers located Swon and brought her in for questioning, police said. She later confessed to detectives that she had started the fires in the dumpsters.
Swon is scheduled to appear in bond court in Kane County Friday morning, police said.
