Woman dies after being stabbed multiple times on CTA platform in the Loop

Woman stabbed to death at CTA station in the Loop

CHICAGO (CBS) – A woman is dead, and police are looking for her killer, after a stabbing on a CTA platform in the Loop early Saturday morning.

Police said the attack was caught on CTA security cameras, starting from the moment the victim walked up the steps of the Adams/Wabash stop around 1:26 a.m., hours before huge St. Patrick's Day crowds arrived downtown.

A man followed the 26-year-old woman up to the platform, where she tried to get on an arriving train, but the man stopped her from boarding, police said.

The woman walked away, but the man followed her and pushed her, then pulled out a metal object and stabbed her multiple times.

Even after she was injured, police said the woman tried to get away, running down to the street, where she collapsed.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital with stab wounds to the chest, abdomen, and left arm. She was later pronounced dead.

"Our investigation is ongoing, and right now we believe it's an isolated incident," said Chicago Police Cmdr. Joe Bird, with the department's Public Transportation Section.

A CTA spokesman said they're "working closely with Chicago Police as they investigate this incident, including providing any relevant security-camera video."

The victim's name has not been released.

No one is in custody. Area 3 detectives were investigating.
