ROSEMONT, Ill. (CBS) -- The Wolves fell short Sunday to the rival Rockford IceHogs in their meetup at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

The Wolves noted that Bradly Nadeau had a goal and an assist, and Gleb Trikozov and Juha Jaaska also each had a goal. But a hat trick by Gerry Mayhew—including a power play goal and an empty netter—proved too much to overcome.

The IceHogs took the lead early in the game, when Samuel Savoie scored a minute and a half in. The Wolves tied the game midway through the first period with Nadeau's goal, and the Wolves took the lead before the period ended as Trikozov scored.

But Mayhew, Kevin Korchinski, and Artyom Levshunov each scored for the Ice Hogs, flipping the score to 4-2 by the end of two periods. Jaaska scored early in the third, but Mayhew scored twice more and the Wolves lost 6-3.
