With Clock Ticking, Catholic School Slated To Close Is Halfway To Fundraising Goal
(CBS) -- A Catholic school slated to close on Chicago's Northwest Side is halfway to its fundraising goal for keeping the doors open.
With less than a week to go in their efforts to raise $400,000, Our Lady of Victory Elementary School is rallying, says Principal Jennifer Hodge.
The small Jefferson Park school is one of six the Chicago Archdiocese announced last week will close, without major changes.
Hodge has seen enrollment double since she came to the school a year and a half ago. She says alumni and the community have been more than generous with their response.
Hodge says they're working on trimming the school's budget, writing grants, reaching out to large donors and alums while also holding fundraisers this weekend.
That's all ahead of the Wednesday deadline to give the Archdiocese a plan for the school to be self-sustaining for three years.
