Willis Tower Skydeck Closed Due To High Winds

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Willis Tower has closed its popular Skydeck on Friday as strong wind gusts buffet the Chicago area.

"The Skydeck is currently closed due to inclement weather," the Willis Tower announced on Facebook. A representative said the elevators that serve the Skydeck cannot operate due to the strong winds in Chicago on Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning through 6 p.m. Friday, due to sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph, and gusts of up to 60 mph.

For Chicagoans hoping to see views from high above Chicago on a sunny, springlike day on Friday, the John Hancock Center's observatory, 360 Chicago, was open on Friday.
