Wife's Ashes Returned To Elgin Man After Burglary
(CBS) -- There's a happy ending to an Elgin man's search for his wife's ashes.
Roger Stettner's wife's ashes were stolen in a June 6 burglary at his home.
He reached out to the media for help. While mowing the grass Friday, he found the box of cremains in his yard – intact and in good condition.
"I just couldn't believe it, I had to look twice," Stettner tells WBBM Newsradio.
The widower feared the burglar would have disposed of the box of ashes. He expressed gratitude the cremains have been returned, though he's puzzled why the burglar would have taken them in the first place.
"The main thing is, she's back," he says.
Stettner says he's glad to move on with his life.
Elgin police say they continue to investigate.
