5 dead, 29 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) – At least five people are dead and 29 others were wounded in shootings across the city during the weekend. The ages of the victims range from 13 to 56.
In the first shooting of the weekend, a 30-year-old man was shot while riding a bicycle on the city's Near West Side Friday evening.
Police said the bicyclist was riding, in the 1300 block of West Washburne Avenue around 5:10 p.m., when he was struck in the abdomen and legs by an unknown offender.
The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
A 22-year-old man is dead after being hit by a vehicle and then shot in South Shore Friday.
The shooting happened in the 2300 block of East 71st Street around 6:16 p.m.
Police say the victim was riding a scooter when he was struck by a Hyundai Sonata. The victim then ran westbound on 71st when an occupant from the Hyundai sonata that struck the victim, produced a firearm and fired shots. The Hyundai Sonata then collided with a guard rail, police said.
The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and chest in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
A 45-year-old man was discovered Friday night, in the 600 block of East 60th around 8:21 p.m., on the grass of Washington Park with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The victim was transported to U of C where he was pronounced dead.
No other details were immediately available.
A man, 23, was shot while sitting in a vehicle in Back of the Yards Friday night.
The victim was inside the vehicle, in the 1700 block of West 47th Street around 11:25 p.m., when shots were fired. He was transported by the Chicago Fire Department to Stroger Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
In other shootings from Friday 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday:
· At 12:07 a.m. Saturday, in the 2000 block of East 67th Street, two men were standing on the sidewalk when an occupant in a black sedan fired shots. A 24-year-old man was transported by the CFD to U of C in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg. A 25-year-old man was transported by the CFD to U of C in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
· At 1:07 a.m. Saturday, in the 3900 block of West Grand Avenue, a 30-year-old man was driving a vehicle when shots were fired from another vehicle. The victim was transported by the CFD to Loyola in good condition with gunshot wounds to the left leg and left arm.
· At 1:10 a.m. Saturday, in the 3400 block of West Madison Street, a 40-year-old female was a passenger in a moving vehicle when shots were fired from another vehicle. The victim was dropped off at Stroger in fair condition with gunshot wounds to the body.
· At 2:14 a.m. Saturday, in the 0-100 block of West Cermak Road, the victims were standing on the sidewalk when shots were fired. A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene with a gunshot wound to the chest. Another man was transported to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the back and face.
· At 4:57 a.m. Saturday, in the 3300 block of West Augusta Boulevard, a man, 29, was traveling eastbound on Augusta while inside a vehicle, when a dark-in-color SUV stopped near the victim and an unidentified offender fired shots in his direction. The victim was transported to Sinai with one gunshot wound to his left arm and two graze wounds to his back in good condition.
· At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, a 40-year-old man was shot in the wrist in the 1300 block of South California Avenue in Lawndale. He self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
· At 6:24 p.m. Saturday, a 31-year-old man was near an alley behind the 500 block of East 72nd Street in Park Manor when someone shot him in the hand. He self-transported to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition.
· At 8:21 p.m. Saturday, a 56-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 3800 block of West Madison Street in West Garfield Park when he heard shots and felt pain. He was shot twice in the left arm and twice in the right knee, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. The victim was uncooperative with police officers and would not answer any questions.
· At 11:13 p.m. Sunday, in the 6500 block of South St. Louis, a male of unknown age was walking on the sidewalk when a white van approached and an unknown person from inside the vehicle fired shots in the victim's direction. The victim suffered three gunshot wounds to the left leg, and wrist and was transported by CFD to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
· At 12:11 a.m. Sunday, in the 3000 block of South Ashland Avenue, a man, 34, was driving southbound on Ashland Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was transported by CFD to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
· At 12 a.m. Sunday, in the 9200 block of South Marquette Avenue, a male of unknown age was sitting on the porch when a white vehicle approached, and an unknown person fired shots from inside the vehicle. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right hand and was transported by CFD to U of C hospital in good condition.
· At 12:36 a.m. Sunday, in the 1300 block of South Sawyer Avenue, a woman, 31, was standing on the sidewalk when she observed an argument and then an unknown male produced a handgun and fired in her direction. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the lower right leg, and right ankle and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition by CFD.
· At 12:20 a.m. Sunday, in the 7000 block of South Ada Street, officers were responding to a person slumped over the wheel and officers discovered an unidentified male in the passenger side of a vehicle. The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
· At 3:45 a.m. Sunday, in the 200 block of West 75th Street, a male of unknown age was walking on the sidewalk when a black sedan approached and fired shots in his direction. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right calf and self-transported to U of C hospital in good condition.
· At 4:25 a.m. Sunday, in the 3500 block of South Damen Avenue, a man, 45, was standing outside when he heard shots and then felt pain. He self-transported to Sinai with one gunshot wound to his abdomen and left hip in critical condition.
· At 4:18 a.m. Sunday, in the 500 block of E. 75th Street., three people were standing outside when shots were heard and then they felt pain. A woman, 51, self-transported to Stroger with a graze wound to the back of her neck in good condition. Another woman, 26, self-transported to Saint Bernard Hospital with one gunshot wound to her left elbow and one graze wound to her abdomen in an unknown condition. A man, 30, self-Transported to Jackson Park Hospital with a graze wound to his left calf in good condition.
· At 12:25 p.m. Sunday, in the 500 block of East 105th Street, a woman, 24, was struck to the arm by gunfire. The victim was transported to U of C hospital initially reported in good condition.
· At 1 p.m. Sunday, in the 12400 block of South Harvard Avenue, a man, 28, was discovered unresponsive near the backyard of a residence with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
· At 2:35 p.m. Sunday, in the 3700 block of South Langley Avenue, a 13-year-old boy broke into a Kia, when the car's owner shot him in the leg. The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, but his condition was not available.
· At 4:52 p.m. Sunday, in the 1200 block of West 81st Street, a 14-year-old girl was shot in the face. She was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition.
· At 7:11 p.m. Sunday, in the 2500 block of West 70th Street, a 14-year-old boy was near the sidewalk, when someone in a car shot him in the side and buttocks. The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
· At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, in the 8400 block of South Parnell Avenue, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen and leg. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in critical condition.
· At 11:16 p.m. Sunday, in the 8200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, a 32-yea-rold man was standing on the sidewalk, when a gunman shot him in the right foot. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
· At 1:01 a.m. Monday, in the 7000 block of South Normal Avenue, an 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were standing on the sidewalk, when someone in a black SUV started shooting. The 18-year-old was shot in the left foot, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. The 14-year-old was shot in the right leg, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
· At 3:51 a.m. Monday, a 15-year-old boy was dropped off at Loretto Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right leg. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in fair condition, and could not provide any details on the shooting.
