Mix Of Rain And Snow Making For Messy Start To Weekend

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Some parts of the Chicago area could actually see minor accumulations of snow on Friday, ahead of a mixed bag of weather this weekend.

A mix of rain and snow was falling across the Chicago area Friday morning, and the National Weather Service said minor accumulations were possible north of I-80, particularly on grassy or elevated surfaces further north.

Skies should clear for the most part by the afternoon, but it will still be a very chilly day for the White Sox home opener at 3:10 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Field, with a high around 39.

The chances for rain or snow is less likely in the afternoon, but scattered precipitation is still possible throughout the day.

Saturday should bring a break from the rain and snow, with sunny conditions, but continued chilly temps, with a high of about 41 in Chicago.

Sunday should be much milder, with a high in the low 40s, but rain is possible throughout the day.

Next week should be mostly clear and dry, but still chilly for this time of year, with high temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s through Thursday.
