3-year-old among 6 killed in Chicago weekend shootings; 31 others wounded

Police investigating separate shootings involving kids in family vehicles

CHICAGO (CBS) – A 3-year-old boy is among six people killed in weekend shootings across Chicago. Thirty-one other people, including a 7-year-old boy, were wounded.

In the first shooting of the weekend, an unaged male was struck in the back by gunfire Friday, in the 600 block of West 92nd Place in Brainerd around 6:09 p.m.

The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in unknown condition. 

Later in the evening, a 29-year-old man was shot in the 300 block of West 54th Street in Fuller Park.

Police say around 7:22 p.m., the victim was in the shoulder and self-transported to St. Bernard Hospital initially reported in good condition.

The victim was uncooperative with responding officers, according to police.

A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire while riding inside a car in the West Lawn neighborhood Friday.

Police said around 8:38 p.m., a woman was driving a white SUV with four children, in the 4400 block of West Marquette Road, when someone in the rear seat of a red sedan, possibly a Mustang or Charger, fired shots.

The boy was struck in the head and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition and was later pronounced dead.

The other three children in the SUV were not injured. No further information was available. 

A 53-year-old man was shot while outside in East Garfield Park.

Police say he was standing on the sidewalk, in the 3400 block of West Lake Street around 11:33 p.m., when shots were fired. 

The victim was transported by the Chicago Fire Department to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left arm.

Two teens are hospitalized after a shooting in Chicago's Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood Saturday evening. 

According to CPD, the teens were standing in the 7200 block of South Dobson around 6:23 p.m. when a vehicle pulled down the side street and someone inside started shooting. 

A 14-year-old boy was struck in the back and left shoulder. He was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition. 

A 19-year-old man was shot in the right thigh and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 

On Saturday evening, a 21-year-old was killed in a shooting in the 300 block of W. 110th Street around 9:05 p.m. Officers responding to a call of shots fired found the male unresponsive with multiple gunshots to the body.''

He was shot in the forearm and forehead. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later. 

A 7-year-old boy is hospitalized after he was shot in the leg in the Roseland neighborhood Sunday afternoon.   

According to the Chicago Police Department around 11:21 a.m. near 108th and Wabash, the family was on their way to Universal Community Missionary Church when one of the occupants of their car saw a man breaking into that family member's vehicle. The family member then approached the suspect, who then started shooting before fleeing the scene. 

One of the bullets struck the vehicle and the boy was struck in the leg with a rifle round, police said. 

Officers in the area responded and gave chase to the suspect, who was identified by the occupants in the vehicle and taken into custody, CPD said.

In other shooting from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: 

·        At 12:46 a.m. Saturday, in the 1400 block of East 47th Street, a 29-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when two male blacks approached and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. The victim was shot in the back during the incident and was transported by the CFD to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.

·        At 12:11 a.m. Saturday, in the 2400 block of South California Avenue, a 20-year-old woman was the front seat passenger in a vehicle when an occupant in a green Jeep fired shots. The victim was driven to Holy Cross and was transported to Mt. Sinai in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder.

·        At 3:07 a.m. Saturday, in the 3500 block of West Dickens Avenue, a 28-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was shot in the right leg and transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition.

·        At 9:31 a.m. Saturday, in the 4300 block of West Adams Boulevard, a 19-year-old man was on the sidewalk when he heard gunshots and then felt pain. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. 

·        At 9:53 a.m. Saturday, in the 900 block of West 71st Street, a 23-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot in the leg by an unknown suspect. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

·       At 12:04 p.m. Saturday, in the 800 block of West 87th Place, a 14-year-old victim was walking in the 800 block of W. 87th place when an unknown offender approached from the rear and shot the victim in the leg and shoulder. The victim was transported to Comer Hospital in stable condition.

·       At 11:40 a.m. Saturday, in the 2000 block of South Michigan Avenue, an unidentified male was discovered inside of a residence with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead. 

·       At 2:34 p.m. Saturday in the 5500 block of South Michigan Avenue, a man, 23, was near the sidewalk when he was shot in the chest, arm and side. He self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was initially reported in critical condition. 

·       At 4:05 p.m. Saturday in the 8200 block of South Houston Avenue, two people, a 25-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man, were struck in a drive-by shooting in front of a home. Both were shot in the chest and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where they were initially reported in critical condition. 

·       At 7:45 p.m. Saturday in the 7200 block of South Rhodes Avenue, a 23-year-old was shot in the face. No details on who might have shot the man were immediately available. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

·       At 10 p.m. Saturday, in the 1000 block of North Pine Avenue, a man, 26, was in an argument with unknown man who produced a hand gun and fired at the victim. The offender was then seen driving away in a silver vehicle. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back and was transported by CFD to Stroger in critical condition.

·       At 10:42 p.m. Saturday, in the 7100 block of South Champlain Avenue, a woman, 27, was in a fight with another unknown woman in the alley when an unknown man began shooting at the victim. Both suspects then fled the area. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of the body and was transported to U of C hospital in good condition. 

·       At 7:15 p.m. Saturday, in the 6900 block of South Indiana Avenue, a man, 25, was dropped off at St. Bernard hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper left thigh in good condition. The victim was uncooperative with Police about the incident and refused to answer any questions.

·       At 3:25 a.m. Sunday, in the 500 block of South Kostner Avenue, a 22-year-old woman was a passenger in a vehicle when an unknown vehicle approached, and then the victim hears shots and felt immediate pain. The victim was shot in the right leg and was self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. 

·       At 3:56 a.m. Sunday, in the 7500 block of South Pulaski Road, a 21-year-old man was inside a vehicle when a dark-in-color vehicle stopped nearby the victim and an unidentified suspect began to fire shots in his direction. The victim self-transported to Sinai with multiple gunshot wounds to his body in critical condition. 

·       At 5:22 a.m. Sunday, in the 300 block of West Division, a 38-year-old man was on the sidewalk when an unknown offender produced a weapon and striking the victim with multiple gunshot wounds about the body. The victim was transported to Northwestern Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police say this appears to be from an argument.

·       At 5:04 a.m. Sunday, in the 400 block of West Blackhawk, Chicago police officers were conducting an investigation of a man with a gun. While touring the location, officers encounter the armed suspect at which time shots were fired and the offender was struck. The offender was pronounced dead on scene and a weapon was recovered. One Officer was transported to an area hospital for observation.

·       At 12:02 p.m. Sunday, in the 9000 block of South Justine, a 17-year-old boy was on the front porch of a home when someone shot him in the left eye. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

·       At 5:11 p.m. Sunday, three people were shot in the 3300 block of West Ohio Street. A 21-year-old man was shot in the right forearm and left hip, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A 28-year-old man was shot in the arm, thigh, ankle, and groin, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A male of unknown age was shot in the leg, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

·       At 6:24 p.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old man was shot in the back in the 1500 block of North Leamington Avenue. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.

·       At 11:18 p.m. Sunday, a 33-year-old man who had been shot at a different location was shot in the chest, and ran to the 300 block of South Hamlin, where he collapsed. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

·       At 1 a.m. Monday, a 46-year-old man was sitting in his car in the 200 block of North Western Avenue, when a sedan pulled up in front of him, and three people got out and demanded his car at gunpoint. The victim refused, and was shot in the groin and thigh. His attackers then got into his car and fled the scene. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
