Chicago Weekend Shootings: 11 killed, 44 wounded; victims include 9 minors
CHICAGO (CBS) – Nine teens are among the 36 people wounded and nine killed in shootings across the City of Chicago over the weekend as of Sunday. The ages of the victims range from 12 to 61.
In the first shooting of the weekend, two women were shot while standing on the street in Calumet Heights Friday night.
The shooting happened in the 2000 block of East 91st Street around 6:12 p.m.
Police said both women, 20 and 37, were on the street when they both were shot by an unknown suspect.
The 20-year-old was shot in the back and transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. The 37-year-old was shot in the left leg and transported to Trinity Hospital in also in good condition.
Later in the evening, a 12-year-old boy was shot while walking in Garfield Park.
The shooting happened on the 900 block of South Albany Avenue near Arthington Street in Lawndale at 8:35 p.m.
Police said the 12-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk when someone in a gray sedan fired shots.
The boy was rushed to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Less than 20 minutes later, a 16-year-old boy was shot while walking in an alley on the city's East Side.
The boy was walking, in the 3500 block of East 106th Street around 8:50 p.m., when he heard shots and felt pain, according to police.
He was taken to Trinity Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the leg.
A 16-year-old boy has died after he was shot on Chicago's West Side Saturday. He and a 13-year-old girl were at a playground behind Chalmers Elementary School in the city's Douglas Park neighborhood around 8:20 p.m. when two unidentified males got out of a dark colored sedan and began shooting. The shooters got back in the car and fled. The boy was struck once in the back. He was transport to Mt. Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 13-year-old who was also nearby was struck twice in the neck. She was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was listed in good condition Saturday night.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
- At 8:30 p.m. Friday, in the 2600 block of West Potomac Avenue, an 18-year-old man was sitting in a car when shots were fired. The victim was self-transported to St. Mary's Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left arm.
- At 8:02 p.m. Friday, in the 3500 block of South Richmond Street, a 22-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk when an occupant in a blue Jeep fired shots. The victim was self-transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the neck.
- At 9:47 p.m. Friday, in the 0-100 block of East 37th Street, two men were standing on the sidewalk when shots were fired. A 33-year-old man was transported by the Chicago Fire Department to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg. A 31-year-old man was also transported by the CFD to U of C in fair condition with gunshot wounds to the chest and left arm.
- At 9:57 p.m. Friday, in the 2600 block of South King Drive, a 17-year-old girl was walking on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was self-transported to Insight Hospital and Medical Center in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the right hand.
- At 10:46 p.m. Friday, in the 2700 block of West Flournoy Street, a 20-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk when an occupant in a vehicle fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to Mt. Sinai in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
- At 10:02 p.m. Friday, in the 7700 block of South Muskegon Avenue, a 32-year-old man walked into Jackson Park hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg and is listed in good condition. The victim left the hospital before relaying any details on the incident.
- At 10:46 p.m. Friday, in the 1600 block of East 70th Street, a 22-year-old man was standing in an alley when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported by the CFD to U of C in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the face.
- At 11 p.m. Friday, in the 400 block of South Wells Street, a 55-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported by friends to Mt. Sinai where he is listed in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
- At 11:38 p.m. Friday, in the 0-100 block of West 79th Street, a 22-year-old man was involved in a fight when the suspect produced a handgun and fired shots. The victim was transported by friends to U of C where he is listed in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen, chess, and neck.
- At 12:59 a.m. Saturday, in the 4000 block of South Langley Avenue, a 15-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk when two males approached on foot and fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right foot.
- At 1:07 a.m. Saturday, in the 2800 block of West 63rd Street, a 38-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital and will be transferred to Mt. Sinai in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm.
- At 1:10 a.m. Saturday, in the 1600 block of West Van Buren Street, a 59-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was self-transported to Rush and was transferred to Stroger in condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
- At 2:01 a.m. Saturday, in the 200 block of North Leavitt Street, a 46-year-old woman was sitting in a parked vehicle when she heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported by the CFD to Stroger where she is listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head.
- At 6:53 a.m. Saturday, in the 5700 block of South Princeton Avenue, a 15-year-old boy was outside when a sedan stopped near him, and an unidentified suspect began to fire shots in his direction. The victim was transported to Comer Children's Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body in critical condition.
- At 8:33 a.m. Saturday, in the 8800 block of South Constance Avenue, a 25-year-old woman was outside when she heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported to Trinity Hospital with one gunshot wound to her left arm in good condition.
- At 1:20 p.m. Saturday, in the 3000 block of West 81st, a 17-year-old boy was on the street when he was shot in both legs by an unknown suspect. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
- At 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 0-100 block of West 111th Street, an 18-year-old boy was traveling ina vehicle when he was shot in the right arm by an unknown person. The victim was transported to Roseland Hospital in good condition.
- At 7:04 p.m. Saturday in the 4400 block of West Wilcox, a 14-year-old boy was on a playground when he sustained a graze wound to the face when an unknown person started shooting. The boy was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
- At 8:23 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of North Leclaire, police responded to a call of a person shot. They found an unidentified male victim between about 20 and 25 years old with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was discovered by a female who was home and heard a loud noise outside. The male victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
- At 9:21 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Phillips Avenue on Saturday, a man, approximately 40 years old, was found unresponsive in the rear parking lot of an apartment complex. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot room to the head and was pronounced dead.
- At 9:32 p.m. in the 8300 block of South Marshfield on Saturday, a 31-year-old man was in an argument with a 31-year-old offender who got out a gun and shot him multiple times. The victim was shot in the back and the head and was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. Police were able to make an arrest in this case.
- At 11:05 p.m. Saturday, in the 700 block of West 76th Street, a 31-year-old man was in an argument with a known male suspect in the rear courtyard of an apartment complex when the offender produced a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim was shot in the shoulder and refused EMS on the scene. The victim is listed in good condition and was uncooperative with further details. The incident appears to be domestic, police say.
- At 11:36 p.m. Saturday, in the 500 block of South May Street, a 30-year-old man was standing outside when he heard shots fired and felt pain. The victim was shot in the shoulder and was transported to U of C where he is listed in good condition. The victim believes that the suspect may have been shooting from a vehicle.
- At 10 p.m. Saturday, in the 6700 block of South Kedzie Avenue, a 56-year-old man was walking outside when he started to feel pain on his thigh. The victim checked the area and realized he had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Holy Cross Hospital where he is listed in good condition.
- At 1:50 a.m. Sunday, in the 5400 block of West Berenice Avenue, a 31-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot at by a suspect traveling in a gray vehicle. The victim was shot in the forearm and is listed in good condition at Community First Hospital.
- At 1:10 a.m. Sunday, in the 3400 block of West Walnut Street, an unidentified man around 40 years of age was traveling in the passenger seat of a vehicle when he was shot at. The victim was shot multiple times in the body and taken to Stroger Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
- At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, in the 2300 block of South Sawyer Avenue, a 26-year-old woman was traveling in the passenger seat of a vehicle when she was shot at by an unidentified woman who was standing near the curb. The victim suffered a graze wound to the lower back and was transported to St. Anthony Hospital in good condition.
- At 2:05 a.m. Sunday, in the 4600 block of West 87th Street, a 37-year-old man was inside a residence when he was shot at by a male suspect who fled the scene on foot. The victim was shot in the abdomen and was transported to Christ Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
- At 4:14 a.m. Sunday, in the 4900 block of South King Drive, a 29-year-old male victim was found outside unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
- At 4:18 a.m. Sunday, in the 4800 block of South Indiana Avenue, a 24-year-old man was outside when he heard shots then felt pain. He was transported to U of C with one gunshot wound to his right thigh in good condition.
- At 3:58 a.m. Sunday, in the 4300 block of South Kedzie, Five people were shot during a street racing caravan according to police. The victims were standing outside with a large crowd at the above location when shots were fired by an unknown suspect(s). A man of unknown age self-transported to Holy Cross with one gunshot wound to his neck and chest, where he was pronounced dead. A 20-year-old man self-transported to Holy Cross with one gunshot wound to his chest and left thigh, where he was pronounced dead. Another man, 20, was transported to Mt. Sinai with one gunshot wound to his chest and two gunshot wounds to the upper body, where he was pronounced dead. A 21-year-old man was transported to Sinai with one gunshot wound to his right thigh, where he is listed in critical condition. A 19-year-old man was also transported to Sinai with one gunshot wound to his abdomen, where he is listed in critical condition. Circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation by the Area One Detectives
- At 1 p.m. Sunday, in the 400 block of North Lawler, an 18-year-old man was shot and took himself to West Suburban Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.
- At 5:03 p.m. Sunday, in the 7000 block of South East End Avenue, a 41-year-old man was in the courtyard of an apartment complex when he was shot in the leg. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
- At 6:20 p.m. Sunday, in the 1400 block of South Karlov, a 26-year-old man was near the alley, when a group approached him and at least two people pulled out handguns. The victim was able to disarm one of them, but the second person shot him in the leg. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
- At 7:14 p.m. Sunday, in the 8300 block of South Ellis, a 61-year-old man was shot in the elbow. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
- At 7:46 p.m. Sunday, in the 2400 block of West 43rd Street, a 29-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were near the sidewalk, when someone in a car started shooting. The man was shot in the thigh, and the woman was shot in the arm and leg, and both victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
- At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, in the 6400 block of South Calumet, a 19-year-old man was shot in the foot. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.
- At 9:05 p.m. Sunday, in the 6600 block of South Greenwood, a 28-year-old man was with a group inside an apartment, when someone shot him in both legs. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
- At 9:13 p.m. Sunday, in the 4300 block of North Whipple, a 50-year-old man was inside his apartment, when he heard a disturbance from a 2nd floor apartment, and stepped out into the hallway, when someone shot him in the face. The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
- At 12:51 a.m. Monday, in the 4100 block of West 26th Street, a 28-year-old man was driving when someone in a red sedan shot him in the face. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
- At 1:15 a.m. Monday, in the 3200 block of West 30th Street, four people were standing next to a vehicle, when someone in a dark sedan started shooting. A 36-year-old man was shot multiple times, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 29-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen and left arm, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A 26-year-old man was shot in the right ankle, and was taken to Mount Sinai in fair condition. A 27-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the back, and refused treatment.
- At 1:29 a.m. Monday, in the 5800 block of South Justine, a 38-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk, when he was shot in the head. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
