Chicago Weekend Shootings: 3 killed, 17 wounded in shootings across the city

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least three people were killed and 17 others were wounded in weekend shootings as of Saturday. The ages of the victims range from 1 5to 60.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 41-year-old man self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital around 11:50 p.m. after suffering a graze wound to the thigh.

The victim is listed in good condition and was uncooperative with details.

A 20-year-old man was shot outside, in the 1900 block of West Cermak Road around 2:19 a.m. Saturday.

Police say he was outside when an unknown suspect shot at him from a tan SUV which fled the scene. 

The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to the buttocks and knee and is listed in good condition.

Minutes later, a 44-year-old man was shot while also standing outside, in the 10500 block of South Vernon Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

Police say he was shot at by an unknown suspect traveling in a sedan.

The victim was struck on the leg and thigh and was transported to Roseland Community Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

A 21-year-old man was walking when he was shot, in the 5100 block of South Maplewood Avenue Saturday morning around 3:30 a.m.

The victim said he heard multiple shots fired and felt pain in his hand.

The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai where he is listed in good condition.

Also on Saturday, a 60-year-old woman was shot in the city's West Woodlawn neighborhood. The woman was standing outside her vehicle in the 6400 block of South Eberhart just after 6 p.m. when someone in a dark colored SUV drove up and someone indside starting shooting. The woman was struck in the finger, buttocks and shin. She was transporting to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 

In another incident involving a female, a 44-year-old woman was shot in the 300 block of North Racine just after 3 p.m. The woman was walking to her vehicle when she heard multiple shots. She sustained a graze wound to the arm and self-transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was listed in good condition.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 10:50 a.m. Saturday, in the 3800 block of South Archer Avenue, two 17-year-old boys were walking down the street when an unknown vehicle approached, and an unknown suspect fired at the victims. The first victim was shot in the back and lower back and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in serious condition. The second victim suffered gunshot wounds to the right shoulder and right foot and was transported in good condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital. The suspects fled in an unknown direction, police said. 
  • At 11:35 p.m., in the 2800 block of North Leavitt Street, a 34-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle when he was approached by two unknown suspects armed with handguns. The suspects began shooting at the victim and fled the scene on foot. The victim was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and leg and is listed in fair condition.
  • At 2 p.m. Sunday in the 5200 block of South Carpenter, a 22-year-old man was in a home when he was shot in the leg. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 
  • At 5 p.m. Sunday in the 4700 block of West Barry, two men were shot, both in the leg. They self transported to Community First and were then transported to Illinois Masonic in unknown condition. The two were in a vehicle when someone in a beige colored Chevrolet pulled up and started flashing gang signs to someone on the street. That's when the person in the vehicle started shooting.
