5 dead, 29 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) – At least five people are dead and 29 others were wounded following weekend shootings in the city. At least two under the age of 18 were killed and six more were injured.
The first shooting of the weekend happened on the 4300 block of West Adams in West Garfield Park.
Police said around 6:50 p.m. Friday, a 16-year-old girl was inside a residence when she suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital and initially reported in critical condition. A person of interest was taken to the area for questioning.
A 17-year-old boy was killed in the Englewood neighborhood Friday night.
Police said around 7:24 p.m., on the 6900 block of South Ada, on May 13, 2022, the victim was near the sidewalk when he was struck to the chest and armpit area. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Two men were shot following a traffic crash in Douglas Park Friday night.
The victims were involved in a crash with another vehicle in traffic, in the 1200 block of South California, around11:28 p.m., when a male black then exited the rear seat of the vehicle and fired shots.
A 40-year-old man was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital by the CFD with gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen and was pronounced dead. Another 40-year-old man was transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the side of the body.
The offender fled on foot and was placed into custody by responding officers.
Two men are wounded following a shooting Friday night in a parking lot in the Douglas area.
Around 11:39 p.m., the victims, 20 and 25, were walking through a parking lot on the 2900 block of South Fort Dearborn when he heard shots and felt pain. The 20-year-old victim was transported to Mercy Hospital by the CFD in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left arm. The 25-year-old victim was transported by the CFD in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
A 30-year-old man is shot while standing outside in the Pilsen neighborhood Friday night.
The victim was standing on the sidewalk on the 1200 block of South Racine when he heard shots and felt pain.
Police said around 11:40 p.m., the victim was transported to Stroger Hospital by the CFD in good condition with gunshot wounds to the left leg.
A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Millennium Park Saturday night.
Seandell Holliday was shot in the chest around 7:30 p.m., on the 200 block of East Randolph, as rowdy crowds of young people converged downtown, disrupting traffic and causing police to make multiple arrests after fights broke out.
Police completely shut down the park, and Mayor Lori Lightfoot later announced a weekend curfew for the park, saying a new policy will no longer allow unaccompanied minors in Millennium Park after 6 p.m. from Thursday through Sunday.
Anyone under the age of 18 will be required to be accompanied by a responsible adult to enter the park after 6 p.m.
According to the mayor's office the new policy will be "strictly enforced and violations will be dealt with swiftly."
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
· At 12:08 Saturday, A 22-year-old woman was involved in a traffic crash with a black sedan on the 4400 block of West Madison Street when shots were fired. The victim was self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
· At 1:21 a.m. Saturday. A 29-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 800 block of East 79th Street when an occupant in a black SUV fired shots. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital by the CFD in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the neck and buttocks.
· At 2:05 a.m. Saturday, A 33-year-old man was standing in a park on the 5400 block of West Ferdinand when an unknown male offender approached on foot and fired shots. The victim was transported to Loyola Hospital by the CFD in fair condition with gunshot wounds to the left arm. There is an offender in custody.
· At 2:18 a.m. Saturday, A 17-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk 4100 block of West Fifth Avenue when an occupant in a silver sedan fired shots. The victim was dropped off at Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
· At 6 a.m., Saturday, in the 4000 block of West Arthington, A 42-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and then felt pain. The victim self-transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with two gunshot wounds to the right side of his ribs and one gunshot wound to his right thigh in serious condition.
· At 1:15 p.m. Saturday, in the 7400 block of South South Shore, officers responded to a person shot and discovered a man, 61, inside of a residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital and initially reported in critical condition.
· At 4:37 p.m. Saturday, in the 6500 block of South Ashland, on May 14, 2022, a man, 34, was near the sidewalk when he was struck by gunfire. The victim was struck multiple times to the body and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
· At 5:35 p.m. Saturday, in the 5700 block of South Indiana, a 19-year-old man was inside a residence when he was struck by gunfire. The victim was struck to the head and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
· At 6:52 p.m., in the 100 block of West Cermak, a man, 19, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the thigh by gunfire. The victim was struck to the thigh and was transported to Stroger Hospital initially reported in good condition.
· At 9:31 p.m. Saturday, in the 4300 block of South State Street, A 13-year-old boy was walking with another male through a gas station lot when an occupant in a white Honda sedan fired shots. The victim was transported to Comers Children's Hospital by the CFD in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left knee.
· At 11:41 p.m., in the 300 block of South State Street, two men were walking with a group of people when two male juveniles fired shots into the group. An unidentified man, 18- 20 years of age, was transported to Northwestern Hospital by the CFD in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. An 18-year-old male was transported to Stroger by the CFD in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left hand. There are two juveniles that are being questioned.
· At 1:35 a.m. Sunday, in the 3200 block of West 16th Street, A 21-year-old man was in his vehicle when an unknown male fired shots. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital by the CFD and is listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the back.
· At 1:41 a.m. Sunday, in the 7800 block of South Essex, A 13-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk with a group of people when shots were fired by an unknown offender. The victim was transported to Comers Children's Hospital by the CFD in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the buttocks.
· At 1:45 a.m. Sunday, in the 2300 block of East 75th Street, A 37-year-old man was standing in the lot of a gas station when shots were fired by an unknown offender. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago by the CFD and is listed in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right foot.
· At 12:30 a.m. Sunday, in the 3800 block of South Wentworth, A 32-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported to Mercy Hospital by the CFD and is listed in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the right foot.
· At 2:20 a.m., in the 2400 block of South Springfield, A 17-year-old boy was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition with gunshot wounds to the left leg. The victim would not give any details on the incident.
· At 1:50 a.m., in the 7000 block of South Pulaski, A 22-year-old man was standing in a parking lot with a group of people when an unknown male offender fired shots. The victim was transported to Christ in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and buttocks.
· At 2:32 a.m. Sunday, in the 700 block of South Albany, a 57-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were standing on the sidewalk when they heard shots and felt pain. The man was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital by the CFD in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm. The boy was transported to Stroger Hospital by the CFD in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
· At 2:48 a.m. Sunday, in the 1500 block of West 62nd Street, A 42-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle when shots were fired by an unknown male offender. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago by the CFD and is listed in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
· At 4:10 a.m. Sunday, in the 900 block of North Rockwell Street, A 30-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital with one gunshot wound to his stomach in stable condition.
· At 4:49 a.m. Sunday, in the 7300 block of North Sheridan Road, A 29-year-old man was inside a vehicle stopped at the intersection, when an SUV stopped next to him and began to fire shots in his direction, subsequently striking a building in the 1300 block of West Sherwin where the victim's vehicle rested. He self-transported to Weiss Hospital with one gunshot wound to his left thigh in good condition.
· At 12:09 p.m. Sunday, a 31-year-old man was standing in a driveway in the 6900 block of South Paxton Avenue, when a gold vehicle pulled up, and someone started shooting. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and took himself to University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.
· At 4:24 p.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old man was inside a vehicle in the 4800 block of North Kedzie Avenue, when someone shot him. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, with a graze wound to the shoulder.
· At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a 35-year-old man was sitting in a parked vehicle at a gas station in the 400 block of East Pershing Road, when someone in a black Chevy Malibu shot him. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
· At 11:10 p.m. Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was sitting on a porch on the 6800 block of South Justine Street, when he heard gunshots and realized he'd been shot in the hand. The victim was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
· At 1:17 a.m. Monday, a 33-year-old man was driving east on the first block of East 100th Place when he heard gunshots, and realized he'd been shot. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition with gunshot wounds to the back and groin, and a graze wound to the head.
