Chicago Weekend Shootings: 5 killed, 21 wounded over holiday weekend

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least five people were killed and 21 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago during the holiday weekend as of Sunday. The ages of the victims range from 17 to 56.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 25-year-old man was shot while walking, in the 2000 block of East 87th Street on the city's South Side, Friday evening.

Police said around, 7:15 p.m., the victim was walking on the sidewalk when an unknown suspect came out of a gangway and shot at the victim.

The victim was shot in the left bicep and was dropped off at Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition.

Later in the evening, a 40-year-old man was shot at a gas station, in the 3900 block of West Division Street in Humboldt Park. 

Around 9:24 p.m., the victim was in a fight with three unknown men when one of the men wearing blue gloves shot the victim in the right arm.

He was escorted by officers to Mt Sinai Hospital in good condition. 

A 19-year-old man was shot while outside, in the 1000 block of West 76th Street in Auburn Gresham around 10:08 a.m. Saturday. 

Initial reports say the victim was outside when he heard shots then felt pain.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds throughout the body and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in stable condition, according to police. 

A 17-year-old is in critical condition after being shot in Chicago's Altgeld Gardens neighborhood Saturday afternoon. According to the Chicago Police Department, the teen was on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of East 132nd Street just before 4 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside started shooting. The teen was shot in the neck and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition. 

On Sunday, a 41-year-old woman was intially in critical condition after she was shot in the city's Washington Park neighborhood. The woman was in the 6200 block of South Michigan Avenue around 5:18 p.m. when she was shot in the neck and chest. She was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. 

Another teen was shot Sunday evening in the 9500 block of South Wentworth around 7:23 p.m., police said. The 17-year-old was near the sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown vehicle, and someone inside started shooting. The victim was struck in the foot and leg and was transported to Roseland Hospital in good condition. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday: 

  • At 11:59 a.m. Saturday, in the 5600 block of West Lake Street, a man, 29, was outside when three unknown suspects approached him - one of which began to fire shots in his direction. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital with one gunshot wound to his back and neck where he was pronounced dead. 
  • At 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 2100 block of West Washington, a 41-year-old man was on the street when he was shot in the head by an unknown person. The victim was transported to Rush Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 5:38 p.m. Saturday in the 3200 block of West 85th Street, an 18-year-old man was inside a home when he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hip. He was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition. 
  • At 7:04 p.m. Saturday in the 4300 block of South Wood, a 23-year-old man was inside a vehicle when he was shot in the back, hand and arm. His vehicle crashed and struck two unoccupied vehicle. He was transported to Stroger Hospital and initially reported in serious condition. A 56-year-old man was in the 4400 block of South Wood when he was struck to the knee. He self-transported to Stroger Hospital and was initially reported in good condition.
  • At 7 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of West 74th Street, an 18-year-old man was near the sidewalk when he was approached by an unknown vehicle, and someone inside started shooting. The victim was struck in the leg. He self-transported to Provident Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 6:35 p.m. Saturday at an unknown location, a 24-year-old woman was shot in the leg. She self transported to Masonic Hospital and was initially reported in good condition. 
  • At 11:12 p.m. Saturday, in the 8300 block of South Ashland Avenue, a 36-year-old man was arguing with a man who exited a Buick sedan and fired shots. The victim was shot in the left shoulder and transported to Advocate Christ in fair condition.
  • At 1:04 a.m. Sunday, in the 9400 block of South Champlain Avenue, a 36-year-old woman was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital by the Chicago Fire Department in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the head. No further information was available. 
  • At 9:03 a.m. Sunday, in the 4600 block of West Maypole Street, a man, 21, suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 11:40 a.m. Sunday, in the 400 block of East 82nd Street, officers responded to a call of a person down and discovered a 54-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 
  • At 12:00 p.m. Sunday in the 6000 lock of South Stewart, a 23-year-old man was on the sidewalk when someone walked up and started shooting. The victim was struck in the left leg and transported to Thorek Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 7:50 p.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old woman was sitting in a car in the 7900 block of South Lafayette, when someone in a dark sedan shot her in the torso. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
  • At 8:41 p.m. Sunday in the 7400 block of South Luella, a 42-year-old man was driving a vehicle when someone shot at him from the sidewalk. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head and was listed in critical condition. 
  • At 9:40 p.m. Sunday, in the 12300 block of South Lowe, a 19-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk with a male friend, when someone in a black sedan shot her in the right hand. She was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in fair condition.
  • At 10:04 p.m. Sunday in the 4300 block of West 25th Place, a 25-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk, when someone in a white sedan shot him in the right leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11:51 p.m. Sunday, in the 2600 block of West Fitch, a 25-year-old man was riding in a car, when someone in a black sedan shot him in the right leg and hip. He was taken to Ascension Saint Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  • At 12:09 a.m. Monday, in the 800 block of East 79th Street, two men were walking on the sidewalk, when someone in a black sedan started shooting. A 25-year-old man was shot in the right hand and left leg, and was taken to the hospital in fair condition. A 36-year-old man was shot in the abdomen, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition.
  •  At 12:28 a.m. Monday, in the 100 block of West 87th Street, a 20-year-old man was standing near a bus stop, when someone got out or a gray Dodge Durango and started shooting. The victim was shot in the abdomen, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
