Chicago Weekend Shootings: 5 dead, 30 wounded across city
CHICAGO (CBS) – At least five people are dead, and 30 others are wounded following weekend shootings across the city as of Sunday. The ages of the victims range from 12 to 62.
In the first shooting of the weekend, a 17-year-old boy was shot on the city's South Side Friday evening.
Police said around 7:32 p.m., the victim was on the street when he was shot in the left foot by an unknown suspect.
He was transported to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.
An hour later, a 50-year-old man was shot while exiting his vehicle in the 5200 block of West Ferdinand in the South Austin neighborhood around 8:32 p.m.
The victim heard shots and felt pain and was transported by the CFD to Mt. Sinai Hospital in fair condition with gunshot wounds to the legs.
A 33-year-old man was walking Friday night, in the 9700 block of South Luella around 10:59 p.m. when he heard shots and felt pain.
The victim was shot in the right hand and self-transported to Trinity Hospital in good condition.
A 12-year-old is the youngest person so far to be wounded in this weekend's violence after he was shot on Chicago's West Side Saturday afternoon, police say. Around 5 p.m. the boy was standing near a sidewalk in the 1000 block of West 13th Street when he was shot in the leg, according to the Chicago Police Department. The boy was transported to Stroger Hospital where he was initially reported in good condition. No further information was immediately available.
On Sunday evening, a 62-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in the eye in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. The man was walking outside in the 7600 block of South Saginaw when he was struck. The victim told Chicago Police officers that the shooter was traveling in a car, but he was unable to provide more details. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. No one is in custody as Area Two detectives are investigating.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
· At 11:55 p.m. Friday, in the 100 block of East 116th Street, an 18-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was shot in the back and self-transported by friends to Roseland Hospital in critical condition.
· At 10:45 p.m. Friday, in the 5100 block of South Rockwell, an 18-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle when shots were fired. The victim was self-transported to Holy Cross Hospital in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the left foot.
· At 2:41 a.m. Saturday, in the 2800 block of West 23rd Street, an 18-year-old man was discovered on the street with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to Mt. Sinai by the CFD and is in critical condition.
· At 2:22 a.m. Saturday, in the 3100 block of South Halsted, a 28-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when shots were fired. The victim was shot in the back and self-transported to UIC in fair condition.
· At 5:31 a.m. Saturday, in the 3500 block of West Sunnyside, a 20-year-old man was inside a parked vehicle when an unidentified offender approached him and began to fire shots in his direction. The victim was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital with one gunshot wound to his face in unknown condition.
· At 3:49 a.m. Saturday, In the 3100 block of North Laramie, a 20-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and then felt pain. The victim was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with one gunshot wound to his left leg in stable condition.
· At 10:33 a.m. Saturday, in the 1100 block of North Waller, a 26-year-old man was outside when shots were heard and then felt pain. He was transported to Stroger Hospital with one gunshot wound to his abdomen, right bicep, and right knee where he was pronounced dead.
· At 2:25 p.m. Saturday, in the 1900 block of West 17th Street, an 18-year-old man was traveling in a vehicle westbound on 17th street when he sustained a gunshot wound to the lower back by an unknown suspect. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
· At 5:24 p.m. Saturday, in the 7300 block of South Michigan Avenue, a man, 31, was near the sidewalk when he was struck in the hand by gunfire. The victim was transported to U of C Hospital initially reported in good condition.
· At 6:16 p.m. Saturday, in the 400 block of West 104th Street, a man 27, was near the front of a residence when he was struck to the neck by gunfire. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
· At 8:14 p.m., in the 8800 block of South Vernon, a 19-year-old man was walking outside when he heard shots fired and felt pain. The victim was shot in the hand and was transported to Trinity Hospital in fair condition.
· At 8:24 p.m. Saturday, in the 1900 block of South Miller, a 20-year-old woman was taking the trash out when an unidentified occupant of a black SUV began shooting at occupants traveling in a blue sedan. The victim was struck on the leg and was transported to Stroger Hospital where she is listed in fair condition. There were no further injuries reported.
· At 8:16 p.m. Saturday, in the 4400 block of North Magnolia, a 21-year-old man was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle when he heard several shots fired and felt pain. The driver of the vehicle accelerated and attempted to flee the scene. The male driver of the vehicle lost control approximately a block away and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle. The victim was shot twice in the leg and was transported to IL Masonic where he is listed in fair condition. There were no further injuries reported.
· At 7 p.m. Saturday, in the 1900 block of South State Street, a 17-year-old boy victim was found in the passenger seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. The vehicle in which the victim was found was located in an alley. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.
· At 12:52 a.m. Sunday, in the 300 block of West 116th Street, a 33-year-old man was inside of an apartment when a known man fired shots after a fight. The victim was transported by the CFD to Advocate Christ Medical Center and is listed in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
· At 2:15 a.m. Sunday, in the 3600 block of Newcastle Avenue, two women were standing in a kitchen of a residence when shots were fired from outside. A 25-year-old woman was taken to Community First in good condition with a graze wound to the left knee. A 23-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the left arm and refused EMS.
· At 2:25 a.m. Sunday, in the 2300 block of West Taylor Street, two men were sitting in a parked vehicle when an occupant in a vehicle fired shots. A 25-year-old man was dropped off at Stroger in good condition with a gunshot wound to the back. A 27-year-old man was dropped off at Stroger in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
· At 2 a.m. Sunday, in the 5400 block of South Kedzie Avenue, a 15-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk with another male when an unknown suspect fired shots. The victim was transported by the CFD to Comers Children's Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
· At 2:22 a.m. Sunday, in the 9700 block of South Jeffery, a 24-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when an occupant in a black sedan fired shots. The victim was self-transported to U of C in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
· At 3:10 a.m. Sunday, in the 6800 block of West Grand Avenue, a 20-year-old woman was standing on the sidewalk when an occupant in a vehicle fired shots. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene with a gunshot wound to the head.
· At 2:50 a.m. Sunday, in the 1700 block of West Farwell Avenue, a known man and a 38-year-old woman had a fight inside the residence. The victim grabbed a firearm and shot in the direction of the suspect. The victim was transported to Saint Francis Hospital with lacerations to her head and right eye in good condition. The suspect was self-transported to Holy Cross with one gunshot wound to his leg in good condition. Area Detectives are currently questioning a person of interest and the circumstances surrounding this incident. Police say the incident appears to be domestic.
· At 1:35 p.m. Sunday, a 35-year-old man walked into Rush Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm and was initially reported in good condition.
· At 6:15 p.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of North Austin, a 44-year-old woman was shot in the thigh. She was transported to West Suburban Hospital in good condition. At the time of the shooting she was driving southbound on Austin when a white vehicle pulled alongside her vehicle and someone inside started shooting.
· At 8:03 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of East Pershing, a 34-year-old man was shot in the left thigh. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. At the time of the shooting, the victim was on a ride share bike and got into an argument with an unknown person who then started shooting.
· At 7:57 p.m. Sunday in the 6400 block of North Hamilton, a 19- to 24-year-old man was shot in the head and neck. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition. He was discovered with the gunshot wounds in the backyard of a building.
· At 8:20 p.m. in the 2300 block of South Christiana, a 33-year-old man was walking toward his vehicle when he was shot by an unidentified person traveling in a black sedan. The victim was shot in the knee and transported to St. Anthony Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. This is a developing story.
