Chicago Weekend Shootings: 3 killed, 9 wounded

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least three people are dead, and nine others are wounded following weekend shootings across Chicago as of Sunday. The ages of the victims range from 13 to 46.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 17-year-old boy was shot while driving, in the 100 block of East 95th Street in Roseland, Friday night.

Police say around 6:52 p.m., the victim was stopped at a traffic light when an unknown suspect shot at his vehicle - striking the victim in the leg.

The boy drove himself to Roseland Hospital where he was said to be in stable condition. 

A 46-year-old woman is dead after being shot, in the 7000 block of South Rhodes Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood Saturday morning.

Around 2:30 a.m., the victim was standing on the street next to a vehicle when a black sedan approached, and an unknown occupant fired multiple shots at the victim before fleeing the scene, police said.

She was taken to the University of Chicago hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

Just hours later, two men are hurt after being shot during a fight in the Logan Square neighborhood.

Police said several people were fighting on a sidewalk, 1900 block of North Lawndale Avenue around 4:06 a.m., when an unknown person pulled out a handgun and fired shots.

A 31-year-old man was struck in the lower back and taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. A 29-year-old man was grazed in the finger and taken to Humboldt Park Hospital in good condition.

Police say the men were uncooperative about the incident.

Saturday afternoon a 13-year-old is hospitalized after a shooting in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. The boy was standing in a parking lot near Jarvis and Ashland around 3:30 p.m. when someone walked up to him and started shooting. 

The victim was struck in the leg and transported to Ascension St. Francis Hospital and than transported to Lurie Children's hospital where he was reportedly stable. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 10:40 p.m. Saturday, in the 1700 block of West 18th Place, a 45-year-old man was the passenger in a vehicle when shots were fired. The victim was transported by the Chicago fire to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm. 
  • At 10:24 p.m. Saturday, in the 3400 block of West 79th Street, two people were shot while standing in an alley after leaving a party. A 16-year-old boy was transported by the CFD to Advocate Christ with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead. A 36-year-old woman was also transported to Christ in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg.
  • At 12:42 a.m. Sunday, in the 400 block of West Marquette Road, a 22-year-old man was standing on a rear porch of a residence when an unknown male offender fired shots. The victim was transported to U of C by the CFD and is listed in good condition with gunshot wounds to the right leg. 
  • At 1:28 a.m. Sunday, in the 10700 block of South Champlain Avenue, a 30-year-old man was standing in front of a residence when two men fired from the sidewalk. The victim was transported to U of C by the CFD in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the buttocks. 
  • At 2:14 a.m. Sunday, in the 2700 block of West 18th Street, a 22-year-old man was found on the street between two vehicles with gunshot wounds to the head and chest. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. Circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation.
  • At 10:22 a.m. Sunday, in the 5800 block of South May Street, the victim, a 31-year-old man, was outside when a gunman fired shots in his direction. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was taken to U of C Hospital in critical condition.
