Chicago Weekend Shootings: 4 dead, 18 wounded

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least four people are dead, and 18 others are hurt in weekend shootings in Chicago as of Saturday. The ages of the victims range from 18 to 64.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 38-year-old man was shot while leaving a train at the Illinois Medical District Blue Line stop Friday evening on the Near West Side.

Police say around 5:42 p.m., the victim was in an argument, in the 400 block of South Damen Avenue, when the shooter fired a shot – striking the victim in the foot.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

Minutes later, in the 2100 block of West 54th Street, a 21-year-old man was shot in the head around 5:53 pm.

The victim was in a Chevy traveling in traffic when an unknown offender on foot fired shots -striking the victim. He then lost control of his vehicle struck two parked cars and his vehicle rolled over. 

He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.

Later in the evening around 11:20 p.m., a 23-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle, in the 1500 block of East 87th Street, when he heard shots and felt pain.

The victim then drove to his residence where he called 911. The Chicago Fire Department took the victim to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. 

A 24-year-old man was shot while outside in the 2400 block of South Troy Street in Little Village Saturday just after midnight Saturday. The man related to officers the shooter fired shots through a gangway from the alley around 12:15 a.m.

The victim was shot in the finger and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

The first homicide of the weekend happened at 2:31 a.m. Saturday, in the 8400 block of South Wabash Avenue in Chatham.

A 23-year-old man was in an alley with an unidentified man who produced a firearm and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was pronounced dead on the scene. 

On Sunday afternoon just before 6 p.m., a man got into an argument with an unknown person in the 4000 block of East 83rd Street. The other person then shot at the victim, who was shot multiple times and pronounced dead on scene. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 12:54 a.m. Saturday, in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street, a 64-year-old man was struck by gunfire while standing outside. The victim was shot in the arm and was unable to provide further details of the incident. He was transported to Mt. Sinai in fair condition.
  • Time and location unknown: A 34-year-old man self-transported to Mt. Sinai with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was uncooperative with details and is listed in serious condition.
  • At 2 a.m. Saturday, a 27-year-old woman was at a party in the 3800 block of West Gladys Avenue in West Garfield Park when someone she knew took out a gun and fired shots. The woman was grazed in the head.
  • At 12:25 p.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 10700 block of South Edbrooke Avenue in Roseland when a gray vehicle pulled up and the people inside shot him. He was struck in the lower left and right legs and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.   
  • At 8:05 p.m. Saturday, an 18-year-old man was walking in the alley in the 4100 block of West 47th Street in Archer Heights when a red sedan pulled up and someone inside shot him in the upper arm. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 8:06 p.m. Saturday, a 24-year-old man was driving in the 3900 block of West 45th Street in Archer Heights when a dark-colored vehicle came from the alley and someone inside shot the man in the left foot. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
  • At 2 a.m. Saturday, in the 3800 block of West Gladys Avenue, a 27-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the head. The victim was at a party when a known offender produced a handgun and fired shots striking the victim.
  • At 8:05 p.m. Saturday, in the 4100 block of West 47th Street, a man, 18, was walking in the alley when a red sedan approached and someone unknown fired multiple shots at the victim. The victim was shot in the upper left arm and was transported by Chicago Fire Department to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 9:39 p.m. Saturday, in the 1500 block of South Springfield Avenue, officers responded to a shots fired call in the area and discovered a man, 27, laying on the ground with gunshot wounds. The victim was very uncooperative with police and refused to answer any questions. The victim was shot in each thigh and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 11:12 p.m., 8200 block of South Marquette Avenue, a man, 27, was standing outside of his vehicle on the driver's side when a dark-colored vehicle approached, and an unknown man exited the passenger side and began shooting at the victim. The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the right knee and two to the left thigh and was taken to U of C in good condition.
  • At 7:39 p.m. Saturday, in the 4100 block of South Mozart Street, a 34-year-old man was in an argument with an unknown man who produced a handgun and shot the victim, and then fled the scene. The victim was shot in the right groin and was transported to Mt. Sinai in good condition. 
  • At 1:50 a.m. Sunday, in the 1700 block of West Greenleaf Avenue, officers responding to shots fire call in the area discovered a male victim, 23 on the ground with gunshot wounds. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg and chest and was transported to St Francis hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced a short time later. 
  • At 1:42 a.m. Sunday, in the 1300 block of South Morgan Street, a man, 32, was in his vehicle when two unknown men approached and fired shots into the vehicle. The victim was shot in the head and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced a short time later. 
  • At 12:57 a.m. Sunday, in the 300 block of West 64th Street, a man in his early 20s walked into St Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the right leg in good condition. When asked about the shooting the victim was very uncooperative and refused to answer any questions about the incident.
  • At 2:50 a.m. Sunday, in the 1800 block of South Blue Island, a 42-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when an unknown man approached from behind and shot the victim in the head. The victim was taken by CFD to Stroger in critical condition.
  • At 4:41 p.m. Saturday in the 4800 block of South Elizabeth, a 37-year-old man was on the sidewalk when someone in an unknown vehicle pulled up. Someone inside started shooting at the victim, striking him in the jaw. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
