Chicago Weekend Shootings: 5 dead, 21 wounded

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least five people are dead, and 21 others are wounded in weekend shootings as of Saturday. The ages of the victims range from 14 to 64.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a man was shot while sitting on a porch in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Friday afternoon.

Police said the victim, 36, was on the porch of a residence, in the 900 block of West 53rd Street around 5:43 p.m., when he was shot in the left shoulder by an unknown suspect.

He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.

Later in the evening, another 36-year-old man was shot in the chest, in the 0-99 block of East 40th Street in Bronzeville.

The victim was standing on the sidewalk around 8:17 p.m. when shots were fired, police said.

He was transported by friends to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

A woman was shot in the head during a domestic dispute in the 1300 block of West 80th Street in Auburn Gresham Friday night.

Police said around 11:11 p.m., the woman, 31, was arguing with a man who produced a handgun and fired shots. 

The victim was transported by the Chicago Fire Department to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in fair condition. The suspect was placed into custody.

At 7:11 p.m. Saturday, the 32-year-old man was shot dead in Roseland. He was in the alley behind the 0-99 block of West 105th Street when someone shot him in the chest and face, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • At 8 p.m. Friday, a 19-year-old man was traveling in a vehicle when he was shot in the upper back in the 5100 block of North Wolcott Avenue in Ravenswood. He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in good condition.  
  • At 11:52 p.m. Friday, a 22-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk, in the 5900 block of West Roosevelt Road, when shots were fired by unknown offenders. The victim self-transported to Loretto hospital with a gunshot wound to the left leg in fair condition. 
  • At 2:18 a.m. Saturday, A 28-year-old woman was driving, in the 4900 block of North Spaulding, when an occupant in a blue sedan fired shots. The victim was shot in the face and transported by the fire department to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition.
  • At 3:37 a.m. Saturday, a 31-year-old man was walking toward his parked vehicle, in the 0-99 block of West Randolph Street downtown, when a red sport-utility vehicle passed him and an unknown suspect began to fire shots in his direction. The victim, a FOID and conceal carry holder, withdrew his weapon and fired several rounds. The offending vehicle then fled the scene, at which time the victim observed one unknown suspect exit from within his parked vehicle and fled in an unknown direction. Two suspects self-transported to Northwestern Hospital where they were placed into custody. The victim was not injured.
  • At 10:59 a.m. Saturday, a 22-year-old man was shot once in the right leg in a domestic incident in the 1000 block of West 103rd Street in Roseland. The man was in the backyard of his home when an unspecified person he knew shot him. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 1:55 p.m. Saturday, a 20-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 5100 block of West Division Street in Austin when someone came up and demanded his property. The robber then shot the victim in the right leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 6:10 p.m. Saturday, a 33-year-old man was struck in the head by gunfire inside a home in the 2000 block of East 67th Street in South Shore. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  • At 9:11 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old male victim was traveling in a vehicle, in the 2400 block of South Rockwell Street, when an unidentified suspect shot at the victim. The victim was shot in the stomach and was transported to Mt. Sinai in fair condition. 
  • At 7:33 p.m. Saturday, Calumet officers responded to a disturbance in the 9900 block of South Wentworth Avenue. A man gained entry into a nearby residence and was threatening a woman with a knife. Officers confronted the suspect and repeatedly ordered him to drop the knife. The officers pulled the woman to safety and continued their verbal direction with the suspect who refused to comply. One officer deployed their taser, but did not work. The man lunged at an officer - striking him in the shoulder and head with a knife. An officer then discharged his weapon - striking the suspect who was then transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The officers were transported to an area hospital for treatment where one officer is in serious but stable condition and the other officer was taken for observation.  There were no other injuries reported.
  • At 2:26 a.m. Sunday, four people were shot during a fight outside a bar in the 5500 block of West School Street. A 50-year-old man was shot in the head and chest and was pronounced dead on the scene.  A 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were transported by the CFD to Mt. Sinai with multiple gunshot wounds to the body and were pronounced dead. A 25-year-old woman was transported by CFD to Ill Masonic Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head and is listed in critical condition. No one in custody.
  • At 4:35 a.m. Sunday, in the 3900 block of South Kedzie Avenue, a 38-year-old man was inside a vehicle when a sedan stopped near him and an unknown suspect fired shots in his direction. The victim self-transported to Sinai with one gunshot wound to his left ankle in fair condition.
  • At 8 a.m. Sunday, in the 200 block of South Kilbourn Avenue, a 44-year-old man was inside a vehicle when an SUV stopped near him. Three unknown suspects exited the vehicle and began to fire shots in his direction. The victim then drove away from the scene, at which time striking a vehicle in the 0-100 block of North Cicero. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body in critical condition. Three female victims of unknown age were transported to Loretto Hospital from the crash with unknown injuries and in unknown condition.
  • At 12:30 p.m. Sunday, In the 2300 block of South Homan Avenue, a man in his 30s was struck by gunfire multiple times to the body and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition. 
  • At 6:55 p.m. Sunday, in the 7300 block of South South Shore Drive, a 65-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the thigh. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
  • At 7 p.m. Sunday, in the 13200 block of South Langley, a 14-year-old boy was near the street when he was shot in the shoulder, flank, and arm. The boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition.
  • At 8:30 p.m. Sunday, in the 3300 block of West 54th Street, a 30-year-old man was shot in the back while driving past a group of people standing outside. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
  • At 9:46 p.m. Sunday, in the 5600 block of South Richmond, a 19-year-old man was walking down an alley when someone shot him in the arm. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
  • At 12:52 a.m. Monday, in the 7100 block of South South Chicago Avenue, A 35-year-old man was driving when someone shot him in the abdomen. The victim was treated at the scene.
