4 dead, 34 wounded in weekend shootings in Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) – At least four people are dead, and 34 others are wounded in weekend shootings across the city. The ages of the victims range from 6 to 56.
A 6-year-old girl was shot Saturday evening in Englewood.
Police said the girl was near the street in the 7200 block of South Racine Avenue around 6:30 p.m., when she was shot in the arm.
The girl was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition.
Five people were shot while standing outside a residence in Homan Square Friday evening.
Police said the victims were standing outside, in the 3300 block of West Flournoy Street around 6 p.m., when someone in a passing vehicle started shooting.
A 33-year-old man who was shot multiple times was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Four other men, ages ranging from 31 to 56, were also taken to Stroger with gunshot wounds and are expected to be okay.
A 27-year-old man was shot while walking outside Friday night in West Woodlawn.
Police said around 9:34 p.m., the victim was approached by two unidentified male offenders, in the 6200 block of South Vernon, who produced handguns and began shooting at the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim was struck multiple times throughout the body and was transported to the University of Chicago in critical condition.
An 18-year-old man was also shot while outside Friday in the 200 block of South Homan Avenue in Garfield Park.
Police said around 10:02 p.m., the victim was standing outside when he heard several shots fired and felt pain.
The victim was struck once in the arm and was transported to Rush Hospital in good condition.
Two men were shot just before midnight Friday in the Austin neighborhood.
The victims, 26 and 29, were both outdoors in the 5700 block of West Division around 11:38 p.m., when they were struck by gunfire.
The 26-year-old victim was shot in the face and back and was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The 29-year-old victim was struck once in the arm and leg and was transported to Loyola Hospital in good condition.
No other injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigation indicates that there was an exchange of gunfire between the two men.
In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:
· At 10:38 p.m. Friday, in the 2600 block of West 23rd Place, a 19-year-old woman was outside when she heard several shots fired and felt pain. The victim was struck once on the thigh and was transported to Mt. Sinai where she is listed in fair condition.
· At 12:01 a.m. Saturday, in the 6200 block of South Michigan Avenue, police responded to multiple people shot and verified that there were five victims struck by gunfire. A 40-year-old woman suffered multiple wounds to the body and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition. A 32-year-old man was also struck multiple times throughout the body and was transported to U of C in critical condition. A 38-year-old man was struck multiple times on the neck and was transported to U of C in critical condition. A 31-year-old man was struck once on the thigh and was transported to St. Bernard in good condition. A 32-year-old man was shot in the mouth and was transported to St. Bernard in good condition.
· At 1:33 a.m. Saturday, in the 3400 block of Monroe, a 39-year-old man was exiting his vehicle when he was shot at by an unidentified male offender who was traveling in a gray Nissan Altima. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and was transported to Mt. Sinai in fair condition.
· At 2:39 a.m. Saturday, in the 600 block of East 92nd Place, a 28-year-old man was outside when he heard a shot fired and felt pain. The victim was struck once on the leg and was transported to Trinity Hospital where he is listed in good condition. The victim was uncooperative with further details.
· At 2:50 a.m. Saturday, in the 5000 block of South Damen, a 28-year-old woman was traveling in her vehicle when she heard several shots fired and felt pain. The victim was shot in the lower back and was transported to U of C in fair condition.
· At 5 a.m. Saturday, in the 2100 block of West Birchwood, a woman, 24, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body, and a man, 30, suffered a gunshot wound to the body. Both victims were sitting inside a vehicle when an unknown male offender approached and shot into the vehicle. The woman was taken to St. Francis Hospital by the male victim in critical condition and the man also went to St. Francis as well in good condition.
· At 10:13 p.m. Saturday, in the 3500 block of West Devon Avenue, a 37-year-old man was in an argument with a known male offender. The offender produced a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim was shot in the shoulder and was transported to St. Francis in fair condition.
· At 10:30 p.m. Saturday, in the 100 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive, a 36-year-old woman was traveling Southbound in her vehicle when she heard several loud bursts. The victim's rear driver-side window shattered and the victim began to feel pain. The victim waved down police at the intersection of Roosevelt and DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The victim suffered a graze wound to the head and was transported to Northwestern where she is listed in good condition.
· At 12:37 a.m. Sunday, in the 4700 block of South Union, a 21-year-old man was outside when he was shot at multiple times. The victim was struck throughout the body and was transported to U of I where he was pronounced dead.
· At 12:36 a.m. Sunday, in the 4700 block of West 5th Avenue, a 29-year-old woman was standing outside when she was approached by a known female offender who produced a firearm and shot at the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained four gunshot wounds to the torso and was transported to Mt. Sinai where she is listed in fair condition.
· At 12:58 a.m. Sunday, in the 1300 block of South Throop, a 36-year-old man was standing outside when he heard several shots fired and felt pain. The victim was struck once on the leg and arm and was transported to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
· At 12:04 a.m. Sunday, in the 10700 South Wentworth, a 28-year-old man self-transported to Ingalls Hospital after suffering a graze wound to the back. The victim was uncooperative with details and is listed in good condition.
· At 3:30 a.m. Sunday, in the 2400 block of North Sacramento, two women, 19 and 22, were approached by a known male who produced a firearm and shot at the victims before fleeing the scene. The 22-year-old victim was struck in the leg and the 19-year-old victim suffered a graze wound to the leg. Both victims were transported to IL Masonic where they are both listed in good condition.
· At 1:26 a.m. Sunday, in the 3600 block of North Recreation Drive, a 20-year-old man was walking outside when he heard a shot fired and felt pain. The victim was shot in the leg and was transported to Thorek Hospital where he is listed in good condition. The victim was unable to provide further details of the incident.
· At 11:44 p.m. Saturday, in the 600 block of West 89th Street, a 43-year-old man and an unidentified man, around 22 years of age, were standing outside when they were struck by gunfire. The 43-year-old man was struck once on the back and was transported to Christ Hospital where he is listed in serious condition. The unidentified male victim was struck once on the face, neck, and chest. The victim was also transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
· At 5:07 a.m. Sunday, in the 5500 block of South Wolcott, a man, 29, was shot in the calf. The victim was walking through an alley when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was transported to U of C in stable condition.
· At 3:25 p.m. Sunday, a 21-year-old woman was traveling in a vehicle in the 3700 block of West Lexington, when someone on foot shot her in the right leg. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
· At 8 p.m. Sunday, a 43-year-old man was walking towards his car in the 6800 block of South Laflin, when someone walked up and shot him. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
· At 10:49 p.m. Sunday, a 50-year-old woman was riding in a car in the 4700 block of South Ashland, when two people on foot started shooting into the vehicle. The woman suffered a graze wound to the head, and refused medical attention at the scene.
· At 11:59 p.m. Sunday, a man was walking on the sidewalk in the 8100 block of South Wentworth, when someone in a black SUV shot him in the left flank. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.
· At 1:27 a.m. Monday, a 45-year-old man was in his car in the 5500 block of West Crystal, when a would-be carjacker walked up and started shooting. The victim, who has a concealed carry license, returned fire, and shot his attacker in the chest. The carjacker was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition. The 45-year-old man was not wounded.
