44 shot, 6 fatally, in weekend shootings across Chicago, in most violent weekend of the year

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least six people were killed and 38 others were wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago, the most violent weekend of the year so far. Two of the victims were under the age of 18. 

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 22-year-old man was standing in the 2800 block of South Central Park in Little Village, around 5:34 p.m. Friday, when an unknown man exited a vehicle and began firing shots at the victim. 

The victim suffered one gunshot wound to the left buttock. The offender then entered his vehicle and fled eastbound from the location. 

The victim was transported by the Fire Department to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition. 

A man was shot during an incident with police Friday evening in the Pullman neighborhood. 

Police said around 5:38 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance of a man with a gun in the 11200 block of South Langley where officers encountered an armed offender. 

The offender pointed a handgun at the officers at which time officers discharged their weapons -- striking the offender. Officers immediately rendered lifesaving aid. 

The offender was then transported to an area hospital in serious condition. Two handguns and a knife were recovered from the offender. 

A man, 52, was shot following an altercation inside a residence in the Lawndale neighborhood Friday night.

Around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to a person shot of a man in the 4000 block of West Fifth who was in a physical altercation with a woman inside the residence. 

The woman retrieved a handgun and fired at the victim -- striking him one time in the right leg. 

The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition -- a weapon was recovered. 

A man was found with a gunshot wound in Gage Park Saturday just around midnight.

Police said around 12 a.m., officers responding to a Shot Spotter call in the 5700 block of South Artesian where they discovered a man, 25, who was found shot one time. 

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh and was transported by CFD to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. The victim was very uncooperative about the incident and refused to answer any questions about the incident, police said. 

Police found a woman shot while chasing a shooter in the Greater Grand Crossing area early Saturday morning. 

Officers around 1:32 a.m. observed an unknown man shooting in the 6400 block of South King Drive and began to chase him but lost sight of the individual. Moments later, they discovered a woman, 26, that was shot while inside a vehicle, according to police. 

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper left shoulder and was transported by CFD to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

Another victim was discovered with a gunshot wound early Saturday morning -- this time in the Pilsen neighborhood. 

Police said around 4:13 a.m., officers responded to a Shot Spotter call in the 1900 block of South Loomis where they found a man, 30, on the ground with a gunshot wound to the right thigh. 

The victim was uncooperative when asked about the incident by officers and was transported to Christ Hospital by CFD in critical condition. 

A 31-year-old man was shot while riding in a vehicle in the West Chatham neighborhood Early Saturday morning.

Around 4:40 a.m., the victim was a passenger in a vehicle in the 100 block of West 83rd Street when he heard shots and felt pain. 

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right arm and was self-transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. 

A person is shot and killed after a fight in the Bronzeville neighborhood Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Around 12:58 p.m., a male, age unknown, was shot after a physical altercation with an unknown man in the 4700 block of South Cottage Grove. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and was transported to the University of Chicago, where he was pronounced.  

In other shootings over the weekend from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: 

·        At 1:35 p.m. Saturday, in the 1300 block of West Morse, a 40-year-old man was in the alley when he sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm by an unknown offender. The victim was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in good condition.

·        At 5:08 p.m. Saturday, in the 3600 block of West Schraeder, a 50-year-old man was in a park when an unknown vehicle pulled up and an unknown offender inside the vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots at the victim. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

·        At approximately 3:36 p.m. Saturday, in the 1400 block of West Wilcox, three men, ages 30, 28, and 43, were on the sidewalk when a light-colored van pulled up. An unknown offender inside the vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots at the victims. The 30-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was transported to West Suburban Hospital in good condition. The 28-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder, and the right arm, and was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. The 43-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm and was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

·        At 6:09 p.m. Saturday, in the 7000 block of South Jeffery, a 29-year-old man was on the street when a gray-colored vehicle pulled up and an unknown offender inside the vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots at the victim. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left flank and was transported to Jackson Park Hospital in critical condition.

·        At 6:34 p.m. Saturday, in the 4400 block of West Adams, a 19-year-old man was on the street when he suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body by an unknown offender. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

·        At 8:16 p.m. Saturday, in the 5300 block of South Damen, a 40-year-old woman was in a residence when she suffered a graze wound to the back by an unknown offender. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

·        At 7:31 p.m. Saturday, in the 1900 block of West Garfield Boulevard, four men were on the sidewalk when a gray-colored vehicle drove by and an unknown offender inside the vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots at the victims. A 42-year-old victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 24-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to the back and left arm, and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition. A third victim, 48, suffered a gunshot wound to an unknown part of the body and was transported to Mount Sinai, where he was pronounced dead. A fourth victim, 65, suffered three gunshot wounds to the back and two more to the right leg and was transported to Mount Sinai in good condition.

·        At 7:26 p.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk on the 2400 block of West 25th when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of the chest and was transported to the hospital by a family member in good condition.

·        At 10:06 p.m. Saturday, in the 800 block of West 31st Street, officers responding to a Shot Spotter call in the area discovered two individuals on the street that were shot. One victim, a 20-year-old man, suffered four gunshot wounds throughout the body. Another man, 32, suffered one gunshot wound to the left armpit area and both were taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. Officers attempted to get details about the incident and both individuals and witnesses on the scene refused to cooperate with officers.

·        At 10 p.m. Saturday, in the 100 block of West Hubbard, A man in his 20's recognized an individual from a previous incident as one of the offenders and approached to confront the individual. The man that was approached then retrieved a handgun and shot at the victim five times. The victim sustained multiple gunshots to the body and was transported to Northwestern Hospital by CFD in critical condition.

·        At 11:33 p.m., in the 6200 block of South Francisco, officers responded to a person shot in the area and discovered a man, 26, on the ground. The victim was being treated by CFD and was pronounced dead on the scene having suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. One person of interest was taken in for questioning. No weapon was recovered on the scene.

·        At 1:12 a.m. Sunday, in the 3600 block of West Douglas, A 17-year-old girl was discovered shot in the rear area of a residence. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to each leg and was transported by CFD to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

·        At 12:09 a.m. Sunday, in the 2200 block of North Homan, A man, 39, was standing on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle approached, and two unknown men exited and began shooting in the victim's direction. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and back and was dropped off at Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A second female victim, 39 self-transported to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and is in good condition.

·        At 12:26 a.m., in the 6700 block of South Winchester, two victims, a man, 40, and a woman, 34 were gathered in the garage when they both heard shots and felt pain. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower right leg and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh and was transported to Christ Hospital in good condition.

·        At 10 p.m. Saturday, in the 800 block of North Trumbull, a man, 33, was standing on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg and right hip and was dropped off at Stroger Hospital in good condition.

·        At 1:48 a.m. Sunday, in the 10400 block of South Calumet, a man, 31, was standing on the street when a known offender began shooting at the victim and then fled the scene. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right and left upper thigh and was transported by CFD to Christ Hospital in critical condition.

·        At 2:36 a.m., in the 7400 block of South Prairie, officers responding to a Shot Spotter call in the area where they discovered a man, 29, on the ground. The victim was very uncooperative with the police about the incident. Officers discovered he had suffered a gunshot wound to the left ankle and was transported by CFD to the University of Chicago in good condition. A weapon was recovered on the scene.

·        At 2:43 a.m. Sunday, in the 1200 block of North Pulaski, A 41-year-old man was exiting a vehicle when an unknown man began shooting at the victim -- striking him multiple times and then fled in a vehicle. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and left leg and was transported by CFD to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

·        At 1:30 a.m., in the 1400 block of North Talman, a man, 26, was dropped off at Humboldt Park Health with a gunshot wound to the right hip in good condition. The victim refused to answer any questions about the incident with officers and remained uncooperative when asked about the incident.

·        At 4:43 a.m. Sunday, in the 400 block of South Pulaski, a man, 57, was in a verbal altercation with an unknown offender who produced a handgun and fired multiple shots. The victim sustained multiple gunshots to the body and was pronounced dead on the scene. The offender entered a vehicle and fled the scene.

·        At 4:18 a.m. Sunday, in the 2700 block of South Pulaski, a man, 21, was the passenger in a vehicle when another passenger flagged down officers in the area. Officers discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Witnesses said there was a black sedan that was chasing and began firing into the vehicle.

·        At 1:19 p.m. Sunday, in the 7100 block of South University Avenue, a 49-year-old man got in an argument with someone who shot him in the leg. The victim was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in good condition.

·        At 2:39 p.m. Sunday, in the 1300 block of East 71st Place, a 24-year-old man got into an argument with someone in an alley, when the other person shot him in the head and back. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead.

·        At 7:06 p.m. Sunday, two men were on the sidewalk in the 5600 block of West Madison Street, when someone pulled up in a vehicle and shot both of them. A 20-year-old man was taken to West Suburban Hospital in critical condition, with a gunshot wound to the left arm. A 22-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, with a gunshot wound to the right arm.

·        At 10:53 p.m. Sunday, three people got into a fight on the 6000 block of North Winthrop Avenue, when one of them shot the other two. A 45-year-old man was shot in the chest, and was taken to AMITA Health St. Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition. A 34-year-old man was shot in the leg, and was taken to St. Francis in good condition.

·        At 1 a.m. Monday, a 26-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 600 block of North McClurg Court, when he felt pain and discovered he'd been shot in the right ankle. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
