1 dead, 17 wounded in weekend shootings in Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least one person was killed and 17 people were wounded in shootings across Chicago this weekend. Two of the victims were under the age of 18.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 15-year-old boy was shot while walking in the Englewood neighborhood Friday evening.

Police said around 5:15 p.m., the victim was walking down the street on the 6800 block of South Halsted when he heard shots and felt pain. The self-transported to Holy Cross hospital in good condition.

A 19-year-old man was shot while in an alley in the Archer Heights area Friday evening.

The victim was in an alley on the 4100 block of West 47th Street when a black-colored vehicle drove up and an occupant from the vehicle fired shots – striking the victim.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper left leg, police said.  

A man is shot while driving in the Chatham neighborhood Friday night, according to police.

The 39-year-old victim was traveling in his vehicle in the 7700 block of South Vernon when multiple unidentified men exited a gangway between two houses and began shooting in the victim's direction.

The victim fled the scene and called 911. The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the right hand and was transported to Christ Hospital where in good condition. 

A 39-year-old man was standing outside early Saturday morning.

Police said the victim was standing in an alley in the 300 block of South Sacramento when he heard shots fired and felt pain.

The victim sustained one gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

A 14-year-old girl is grazed while outside in the South Shore neighborhood Saturday around midnight, police said. 

The victim was walking outside around 12 a.m., in the 7800 block of South Kingston, when she heard shots and felt pain. 

The girl was transported to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition with a graze wound to the shoulder blade. 

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

·       At 2:15 p.m. Saturday, a 30-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the lower left leg and was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The victim was walking through a parking lot in the 5400 block of West Madison when an unknown offender approached the victim on foot produced a handgun and fired shots striking the victim. 

·       At 1:50 p.m. Saturday, in the 300 block of West 110th Street, a 58-year-old man exited a residence when three unknown men approached him. One offender struck the victim in the head with an unknown object. A second offender produced a firearm and fired one gunshot in the victim's direction.  The offenders fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the upper thigh. The victim was not cooperative with the officers on the scene. The victim refused EMS at the time of CFD's arrival on the scene.

·       At 12:13 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old woman was at an indoor gathering on the 2400 block of East 79th when she heard multiple shots fired and felt pain. The victim suffered one gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to the University of Chicago in critical condition. 

·       At 11:10 p.m. Saturday, a 26-year-old man was walking through an alley on the 1700 block of North Mason when an unidentified man shot at him from a distance before fleeing on foot. The victim suffered one gunshot wound to the right leg and was transported to Loyola Hospital where he is listed in good condition. 

·       At 1:52 a.m. Sunday, a 50-year-old man victim was traveling in his vehicle on the 2500 block of West Pope John Paul 2nd Drive when he heard multiple shots fired and felt pain. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and was transported to Mount Sinai where he is listed in critical condition. The victim was unable to provide further details due to the severity of his injuries.

·       At 2:21 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old male victim was outside on the 8400 block of South Aberdeen when he was shot at by an unidentified offender. The victim suffered one gunshot wound to the thigh and was transported to Little Company of Mary where he was pronounced dead.

·       At 2:42 a.m. Sunday, a 26-year-old woman was inside a restaurant waiting to order 11600 South Halsted when two unidentified men began to argue. One of the men exited the establishment and began shooting at the other man who remained inside who also returned fire. During the exchange of gunfire, the 26-year-old woman suffered one gunshot wound to the forearm and was transported to Roseland Hospital in fair condition. 

·       At 2:45 a.m. Sunday, In the 4800 block of South Cottage Grove, A 37-year-old man was standing outside when an unknown offender approached him and fired a shot in his direction. The victim then self-transported to Mount Sinai with one gunshot wound to his groin in stable condition. 

·       At 10:30 a.m. Sunday, in the 8700 block of South Burley, a man, 42, suffered a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was outside while a group of people was fighting when an unknown woman began firing shots striking the victim. The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition.

·       At 7:05 p.m. Sunday, in the 4700 block of South Lawndale Avenue, a 28-year-old man was on the sidewalk when three people walked up, and one of them shot him in the back and right shoulder. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

·       At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, a guest at the Godfrey Hotel in River North was shot during an attempted robbery. Police said a 53-year-old man was staying at the River North hotel, in the 100 block of West Huron Street, when someone knocked on the door around 11:30 p.m. The man opened the door and a male offender forced his way into the room with a gun, demanding the victim's property.  The offender fired shots at the victim and the victim fired shots back. The 53-year-old victim suffered a graze wound to the head and was treated at the scene. 

·       At 12:01 a.m. Monday, in the 5200 block of South Lake Park Avenue, a 28-year-old man got into a fight, and the other person retrieved a rifle from a white Mercedes, and started shooting. The victim was shot in the neck, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition. 

·       At 12:21 a.m. Monday, a 36-year-old man was standing in front of a home in the 100 block of West 1112th Street, when someone in a white sedan shot him in the groin. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
