Webcams Keep Eye On Peregrine Falcon Nests In Wisconsin

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) - Webcams are tracking the habits of peregrine falcons in southeastern Wisconsin, including one nest where chicks are expected to hatch soon.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports We Energies has outfitted five sites to live stream video of falcon nests. Streaming began Monday.

The expected egg hatching is at Pleasant Prairie in Kenosha County. Other sites include Port Washington in Ozaukee County.

The company has had webcams monitoring falcon nests the previous three years. Falcon expert Greg Septon says more than 200 chicks have hatched at We Energies sites.

The peregrine falcon was removed from the U.S. threatened and endangered species list in 1999. The newspaper says no falcons were believed to be in Wisconsin from 1965 to 1987.
