Chicago Weather Alert: Scattered downpours, possible flooding
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Scattered downpours could trigger isolated flash flooding late Sunday evening and overnight in the Chicago area.
A slow moving frontal boundary will be the focus for additional showers and storms Sunday night through much of Monday. Although widespread severe storms are not expected, storms producing gusty winds and torrential downpours will be possible. Some isolated flash flooding is the main concern for Sunday night. Lows will be holding steady in the mid to upper 70s.
Shower and storm chances will be high Sunday night through Monday morning for Chicago and the northern and western suburbs. By the afternoon, the front will be south of Chicago, allowing for the best chance for storms to be along and south of Interstate-80. Highs on Monday will be in the low to mid 80s, then cooling late in the day behind the front.
Expect mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies for Tuesday with highs cooler in the mid to upper 70s.
After Monday, we'll head into a mainly dry and pleasant weather pattern for the remainder of the week. On Thursday a front will allow for isolated shower chances.
A beach hazards statement is also in effect from Monday afternoon at 3:42 p.m. through Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service Chicago. High waves of 3 to 6 feet and dangerous currents are expected at Lake Michigan beach in Cook County and Lake County, Illinois. Swimming conditions will be life threatening, especially for inexperienced swimmers, officials said.
