Waukegan Woman's House Shot Up After Woman Killed Dog
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Waukegan woman said she believes she was the victim of retaliation, after she shot and killed a pit bull that was attacking another dog she was watching.
Keith Turner, a local activist, and an anonymous donor have put up $1,250 as a reward for information leading to the person who fired several gunshots through the back of Romena Rhyan's house late last month.
She said she believes the shooting was in retaliation for her killing a pit bull that was mauling another pit bull on her property while she was dogsitting last month. She claimed she warned the dog's owner she would shoot the pit bull if he didn't get the dog off hers, but she said he didn't make much of an attempt, and then asked why she fired her gun.
"This has been a very traumatic experience for me," she said.
Rhyan said she was sleeping a couple days later when someone fired shots into her house.
Turner, a friend of Rhyan's, said at least seven shots were fired into the back of her house.
"When her house was shot up, she contacted me again, very scared and distraught," Turner said.
Waukegan police were investigating the shooting at Rhyan's home.
Rhyan said the dog she has been caring for, Veyda, was left virtually crippled by the mauling.
