Watch: Yoenis Cespedes Chooses Not To Field A Totally Playable Ball In Outfield, Allows Inside-The-Park Homer
(CBS) This is just too funny and as Yoenis Cespedes as it gets.
In a Thursday afternoon game between the Astros and Mets, Houston's A.J. Reed hammered a Matt Harvey offering that landed just inches in front of the center-field wall and rested at the base of the wall. The ball was clearly visible. It was easily reachable. It was clearly playable.
Cespedes had no interest in playing the ball, so he put his arms up to ask for a ground-rule double. Reed circled the bases and was awarded an inside-the-park homer. An umpire trotted out to center field to show Cespedes what he should try to do next time something like this happens.
It's classic Cespedes.
