Watch: Owner Of West Loop Pet Care Business Kicks Dog

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A surveillance video captured a professional dog walker doing something that would force him to shut down his business.

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports that video is now sparking outrage by animal lovers all over the internet.

The dog walking business Alone At Home Pet Care operated out of the West Loop. A former customer of the business says it's now closed, the result of that disturbing video and the subsequent social media uproar.

In the video, the owner of Alone At Home Pet Care stands quietly in an elevator Tuesday with two dogs, including the puppy Chloe. Then, out of nowhere, he steps on the little dogs paw and less than a minute later, pulls his left foot back and kicks her.

Pam Capraro says the video is "shocking." Capraro was one of At Home Pet Care's long-time clients, until today.

"There were no indications that there was a problem or we would have stopped using them," she said.

It didn't take long for the video to hit social media and with it outrage on the business's Yelp page.

Then, this afternoon, customers received an email from the business owner Jon Stenholt. "I am a despicable individual who did a horrible thing to a defenseless animal. I deserve all that I am now receiving. I am ashamed of my actions...." then, near the end, "effective immediately, Alone At Home Pet care is over."

"We trusted him," Capraro said.

Kozlov called and sent an email to Stenholt to ask him what led him to do it but did not get a response.

She also spoke briefly to Chloe's owner. She did not want to be interviewed but says she plans to file a police report Thursday.
