Watch: It's The 21-Year Anniversary Of The Ventura-Ryan Fight
(CBS) It's an incident White Sox manager Robin Ventura would rather forget, but he'll always be synonymous with it for as long as he's in baseball.
Twenty-one years ago today, on Aug. 4, 1993 in Texas, Ventura got plunked in the back by Rangers right-hander Nolan Ryan and charged the mound. What ensued was one of baseball's more lopsided and infamous fights of all time.
To be blunt, Ventura got his butt kicked by the legendary Ryan, who was 20 years older but got Ventura in a headlock with his left arm and repeatedly hit him with his right hand. The brawl was the result of a buildup of bad blood between the two teams that had boiled over.
