Warmer, humid conditions and storm threat build Monday in Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) — Monday afternoon and evening could bring strong to severe thunderstorms to the Chicago area.
Warm winds from the south will carry heat and humidity into the area. Daytime highs are expected to be in the middle 80s. Any storms that form will tap into this steamy air mass, creating gusty thunderstorms mainly between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m.
The strongest cells may contain damaging winds and localized flooding. Storms are expected to be slow movers loaded with plenty of moisture. The Storm Prediction Center has the Chicago area at a level one (out of five) for severe chances.
Conditions will still be unsettled Tuesday through Wednesday morning, with scattered showers and thunderstorms at times.
Finally, the main front will push this warm and humid air mass out, and a drier center of high pressure clears the end of the work week.
