Warm And Muggy Day, With Afternoon Storms Possible

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Though it will be warm, it's not going to be the prettiest day in Chicago on Thursday, as more showers and storms will be rolling through, with a slight risk of severe weather.

There were a few scattered showers early Thursday, and one larger band of heavier downpours, but thunderstorms were not expected until the afternoon, as temperatures climb into the mid 60s.

The chance for severe weather is mainly for areas south of Interstate 55 in Illinois, and throughout Indiana, probably after lunchtime. There will be the potential for frequent rain, lightning, large hail, and damaging winds.

By 4 p.m., storms will most likely have moved east of the area, although more scattered showers are possible through Friday.

Temperatures also will drop significantly overnight, reaching as low as 40 degrees. Friday's temperatures likely won't get out of the upper 40s.

The weekend also will be chilly, but clear, with temperatures in the middle to upper 40s during the day, and the upper 20s to low 30s overnight.
