Volunteers Collecting Goods For "Really, Really Free Market" In Plainfield

(CBS) -- Volunteers in Plainfield are getting ready for what amounts to a huge garage sale, but WBBM's Regine Schlesinger reports it's one where everything is free for the taking.

It's called the Really, Really Free Market and was the brainchild three years ago of Carol May, an environmentally-conscious congregant at the Plainfield United Methodist Church. She says it accomplishes several goals: helping people unclutter their homes and giving others items they otherwise couldn't afford.

"It's all about getting things back into the environment to redistribute them so they don't end up in a landfill," May said.

Donors are invited to drop off any unwanted belongings at the church. Each year, says May, they get more and more stuff, including furniture, clothing, and toys.

The Really, Really Free Market will be held starting at 10 a.m. on August 1 at the Plainfield United Methodist Church.
