VIDEO: Police Conduct Raid In Gary, Ind.
(CBS) -- Friday was our first glimpse of the warmth. With the nice weather comes crime.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards went along in Lake County, Ind. for an intense crackdown.
Ten agencies and more than 60 officers participated in a sweeping raid in Gary, a city that saw 55 homicides last year – a 30 percent increase from the previous year.
The goal of the sweep: Bust up little crimes before they become bigger.
"It's the beginning of spring. With the warmer weather, it's probably going to get worse before it gets better," Sheriff John Buncich says.
The Lake County sheriff now aids Gary police in an effort to curtail crime.
