CBS 2's Sabrina Franza reports the UPS driver will be ok. His condition is stable at Stroger Hospital.

Neighbors said he's been working in this area for a long time and has become a friendly face. They hope that after he recovers, he can come back to work.

The 32-year-old employee was driving a UPS truck at Trumbull and Chicago just after 10:00 a.m. when witnesses tell us someone in a car started firing along the street.

Cars down the street were also hit. Police left fliers notifying owners of criminal damage to their property. The employee was taken to Stroger Hospital with a graze wound to his back as police began investigating the scene.

It's unclear why this happened or if that driver was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Neighbors and witnesses told CBS 2 they dropped to the ground when they heard over ten gunshots. They were worried they'd also be hit.

"I heard multiple shots, and that's when I ducked,  you know, people were diving on the floor. People ducked. They ran into the store until everything was over," said a neighbor named Julius.

CBS 2 reached out to UPS to see if they've made contact with their employee. The company said it's thankful its driver is safe, and it's working with authorities as the investigation continues.

No one is in custody.
