Up To 6 Inches Of Snow Possible In NW Indiana

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Snow, frigid temperatures and 45-mph winds could make for a grisly Thursday morning in parts of northwest Indiana, the National Weather Service warned.

It was snowing lightly in parts of Porter County--including Valparaiso--at 4:30 a.m., the weather service said.

A winter weather advisory, in effect from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, warns that up to six inches could be on the ground by the afternoon, but mainly by the lake in the northeastern part of the county.

"Therefore … not everywhere in Porter County will see significant accumulations," the advisory said.

The flakes mixed with potential wind gusts of up to 45 mph along the lakefront could significantly reduce visibility, the advisory warned.

Temperatures were expected to stick around 14 degrees during the day and drop to 7 degrees at night, paired with wind chills between minus 4 and minus 9, the weather service said.
