Two Wounded In Lakeview Shooting

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were wounded early Thursday in a drive-by shooting in the Lakeview neighborhood.

Police said the shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. at the corner of Belmont and Sheffield avenues.

Witnesses said a silver SUV circled the block, then drove down Sheffield again and opened fire.

The bullets sprayed into a crowd, and hit at least two people.

"We can't hang out on the South Side because we already deal with this. We can't hang out on the West Side. Now we're up here where we feel comfortable, and it still happens," said Jaleel Carter, a friend of the victims.

Paramedics rushed a 25-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Both had been shot in the legs, and their conditions were described only as stable.
