West Side Man Charged For Orange Line Armed Robbery

(CBS) -- A West Side man has been charged in a brazen robbery on an Orange Line train earlier this month.

Michael Taylor, 20, was apprehended by police in Rockford Friday night, according to a Chicago Police press release. Taylor is facing four felony counts of robbery armed with a firearm and is also facing charged in connection with a shooting in May in which no one was hurt.

A second suspect was taken into custody in Indiana and is awaiting extradition. That suspect has not yet been charged.

On July 16, two men boarded an Orange Line train around 4:15 p.m. at the Halsted stop, and announced a robbery after the train pulled out of the station. At least one of the men pulled out a gun and robbed several passengers, before getting off at the Roosevelt stop.

Police have said the robbers got away with about $100 in cash, an iPhone, an iPad, two laptop computers, and some credit cards. One woman was pistol-whipped when she refused to hand over her purse, but no one was shot.

Authorities have released several surveillance camera images of the suspects.
