Two Gang Members Sentenced In 2012 Fatal Shooting Of Six-Year-Old Girl

(CBS) -- A judge has sentenced two gang members convicted of the fatal shooting a six-year-old girl as she sat on her front steps with her family, reports WBBM's Nancy Harty.

Juan Barraza was the driver in the March 2012 shooting of Aliyah Shell was sentenced to 50 years and Luis Hernandez, the shooter, received 65 years.

Dawn Valenti with the group Chicago Survivors was there as the judge sentenced the two men for aggravated discharge of a weapon and murder.

"It was pretty emotional," Valenti said. "The older sister had to be removed from the courtroom because she had an outburst."

Valenti says the judge commented how on days like this his job is hard, with a six-year-old in a cemetery and two young men going to prison for a long time.
