Two Chicago Walmart Express Stores Closing On Sunday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two Walmart Express stores in Chicago will be closing on Sunday, part of a global restructuring by the giant retailer.

The two locations are 275 West Chicago Ave. and 3636 N Broadway.

The company will close 154 locations in the United States, including the company's 102 smallest format stores, called Walmart Express.

Walmart instead will focus on strengthening Supercenters, the company said.

Actively managing our portfolio of assets is essential to maintaining a healthy business," Doug McMillon, president and CEO, said in a statement.

"Closing stores is never an easy decision, but it is necessary to keep the company strong and positioned for the future. It's important to remember that we'll open well more than 300 stores around the world next year. So we are committed to growing, but we are being disciplined about it."

None of Chicago's large stores or the neighborhood market stores are targeted for closing. No stores in Northwest Indiana are on the closing list.
