Two Charged With Murder In 2013 Slaying
Two South Side men have been charged with fatally shooting a man nearly a year ago in the Chatham neighborhood.
Leroy Griffin, 18, was shot in the head around 7 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2013, in the 7900 block of South Lafayette Avenue, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
According to police, a dark SUV pulled up and several suspects got out and opened fire, striking Griffin in the head.
Griffin, of the 7500 block of South Langley Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where died, according to the medical examiner's office. His death was ruled a homicide.
Police said at the time the shooting was thought to be gang-related.
Lamont Jackson, 24, of the 6000 block of South Lafayette; and 25-year-old Louis Smith of the 6700 block of South Lafayette were each charged this week with first-degree murder, murder while committing another forcible felony, and mob action, police said.
Both were expected to appear in bond court Friday, police said.
