Two Charged With Bringing Guns To Midway Airport Over Weekend

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man and a woman were arrested in separate incidents this weekend for bringing loaded guns to Midway Airport.

Most recently, a Florida man was arrested with a loaded gun in his briefcase early Saturday at Midway International Airport.

Kurt Young, 46, faces one misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm at an airport, according to Chicago Police.

The .38-caliber Jennings Bryco 58 handgun was discovered in Young's briefcase about 5 a.m. through a Transportation Security Administration X-ray machine before the man's scheduled flight to Atlanta, according to police and the TSA. The gun was loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, the TSA said.

Young, of Tampa, posted bond and was released, police said. He is next scheduled to appear in court April 24.

On Friday afternoon, a woman from south suburban Markham was arrested at the airport for having a handgun in her carry-on bag.

About 1:15 p.m., TSA officers found the Smith & Wesson handgun as 29-year-old Candace Bunch was passing through a security checkpoint, police and the TSA said. It was loaded with six rounds, the TSA said.

Bunch was charged with a felony count of boarding an aircraft with a weapon, police said. Her court information was not known Sunday evening.

Bunch's and Young's arrests mark the fourth and fifth gun seizures at Midway this year, the TSA said. TSA officers have found more than 350 guns at airports across the country since Jan. 1.
