Two Bikers Severely Injured In Crash During Charity Motorcycle Ride

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were severely injured Sunday after their motorcycle crashed during an ABATE charity motorcycle ride in northwest suburban Carpentersville.

Curtis Dalton, 46, of Warrenville, was driving a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle near the intersection of Main Street and Green Road at 12:45 p.m. when he swerved to avoid a helmet that fell off another motorcycle involved in the ride, according to a statement from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

Dalton was air lifted from the scene to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, and his passenger, Sara Nickence, 43, of Aurora, was taken to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva. Both suffered severe injuries, and their conditions were not immediately known, police said.

Police are not sure whether the two riders were wearing helmets.

No other injuries were reported, and Main Street was closed for two hours while the crash was investigated.
