Time Of The Essence For Bears For Many Reasons

(CBS) Time is of the essence for the Bears in their search for a new general manager and head coach -- and not just because of the pool of GMs and coaches to choose from could dwindle.

The top assistants to put together a well-rounded staff will also be harder to find with every day that goes by, the Tribune beat writer and 670 The Score contributor Brad Biggs said.

"I don't know how much you can fast track that thing and still be diligent throughout the process, but the sooner they get that done, then they can go full speed on the coaching thing," Briggs said on the Mully and Hanley Show on Monday morning. "Because as you guys know and have talked about, it's not just when you get the head coach, it's getting that head coach in place to allow him to have as good of a selection pool to choose from as possible for assistant coaches. And we've seen it where the Bears brought in new coaches -- the new coaches got four or five guys lined up to come with them. Boom, right off the bat, these guys are going to be there. And then it's a process. Sometimes the GM is more involved than other times in terms of helping out the coach fill out that group. That's something that takes a while. So the sooner you get your head coach in place, the sooner you have a chance of getting in-demand assistants to come join the guy."

Briggs talked about a variety of topics, including why Rex Ryan and Doug Marrone. Take a listen here.
