Three Hospitalized After Fire At Edgewater Apartment Building
(CBS) --One person is in critical condition and two others are in fair condition following an early morning fire in an apartment building in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood.
Neighbors say they heard screaming around 8 a.m. and saw adults and some children panicking amid a lot of smoke coming from a brick, four-story apartment building.
Firefighters rescued three people and neighbors helped others get out. The fire department says while the smoke filled the entire building, it appears the fire stayed in the third floor unit, where it started in the kitchen.
There were working smoking detectors. The fire does not appear to be suspicious.
