Three Men Found In Avondale Died Of Hypothermia

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three men found dead in a vacant Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood building last week all died of hypothermia, officials said.

Emergency officials responded to 3310 N. Harding Av. about 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 12 found the men dead in a vacant building, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The men—ages 36, 50 and 73—may have been homeless, authorities said. Their names were still being withheld as of late Monday morning pending notification of family.

Autopsies found all three died of hypothermia due to cold exposure, with alcohol intoxication a contributing factor, according to the medical examiner's office.

Their deaths were ruled accidents.

The deaths raise the confirmed number of cold-related fatalities this season in Cook County to 14, according to the medical examiner's office.
