Three Injured In West Side Blaze

(CBS) -- Three adults were injured in a fire in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side Sunday morning, according to Chicago Fire Media.

The fire broke out in the two story building in the 4900 block of West Fulton at approximately 9:55 a.m. Two adults were transported in stable condition and one in good condition, with one person refusing transport.

CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports the building was home to three generations of the Watkins-McCune family. Most managed to run to safety, but not all.

"My auntie and my uncle was trapped inside," said Crystal McCune.

That's when a team of west side firefighters did what they do best: save lives

"In the beginning there was people screaming saying there was more people inside," said Joel Rivamonte.

The couple was trapped in a first floor bedroom and smoke blanketed the home.

"I can't tell you what they were saying I just remember hearing voice and it didn't sound like a fireman, it sounded like someone else was in there," said Lt. Michael Price. "We were searching the room and didn't see anyone then I saw a little bit of light by the window and I saw a person."

The couple, nearly consumed by smoke, was pulled to safety and the family, coping with the loss of their home is grateful

Crystal McCune's 63-year-old-mom was also trapped inside. After getting her two children to safety, Crystal ran back into the house found her mother, and led her to safety.
