Three found dead in Round Lake Beach, homicide investigation underway
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three people were found dead Monday afternoon inside a home in far north suburban Round Lake Beach, and a high-speed chase ended with a person of interest in custody.
A well-being check brought police to the home in the 200 block of East Camden Lane around 1:40 p.m., leading to the discovery of three people dead inside.
A wild police chase of a vehicle wanted in connection to those homicides ended some 70 miles away on Interstate 80 near Joliet, where the vehicle fleeing from Illinois State Police crashed shortly before 4 p.m.
Illinois State Police initially spotted the vehicle on Interstate 57th near 115th Street, and tried to pull it over, but the driver took off, reaching speeds of well over 100 mph before the crash.
Round Lake Police confirmed a person of interest was in custody, but no charges have yet been announced.
Neighbor Dennis O'Brien said he spoke with investigators after the three people were found dead.
"They just wanted to know if I have a camera, if I've seen anything out of the ordinary, if the garage door was open most of the day; and I said 'nothing out of the ordinary,'" he said. "Nobody speeding off down the street; and didn't hear anything like gunshots or anything like that."
Fellow neighbor Kevin Devera said he's lived there 22 years, and "that house has been in and out with people."
"Thankfully it's an isolated incident," he added.
The person of interest who was taken into custody was hospitalized for his injuries. Police have not said what the relationship is between the three people found inside the home.
