Three Charged With Murder Of Berwyn Man On NY Eve
BERWYN, Ill. (STMW) -- Three men have charged with the murder of a man found shot to death in a Berwyn barber shop on New Year's Eve.
Eddie Garcia, 25, of Berwyn; Salvador Alvarado, 25, of Cicero; and Jonathan Ivory, 24, of Westchester have each been charged in the death of 20-year-old Jose Mendoza, according to a statement from Berwyn police.
Mendoza was the victim of an attempted armed robbery behind Millenium Cuts, in the 2100 block of Oak Park Avenue in Berwyn, on New Year's Eve, police said. He was discovered in the barbershop with a gunshot wound to the chest at 9:40 p.m.
Mendoza, of the 2600 block of South East Avenue in Berwyn, was pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center at 10:07 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police discovered through video surveillance that Mendoza was the victim of an attempted armed robbery behind the shop.
Garcia, Alvarado and Ivory each face one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted armed robbery, police said.
Garcia and Ivory were ordered held without bond Sunday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's website. Bond for Alvarado was not immediately available.
